What a night of sensational Championship action - unless you're an Ayr fan, that is.

Scotland's top two leagues have been absolutely box office this season and this was another evening of popcorn-grabbing entertainment.

And there's more action to come this weekend as we cover all four of the Scottish Cup quarter-finals - kicking off tomorrow night with Hearts against St Mirren, live on BBC Scotland from 19:45 GMT.

    See you then!

  2. 'Should have scored more' - McInnespublished at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

    FT: Ayr United 1-3 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "Any time you win a derby, you've got to realise what it means to the support. It's great to see them go home happy.

"We started brilliantly, the quality of the goals was outstanding. We had a couple of chances to make it four.

"I'd like to have scored a few more goals, but I'd have taken this at the start of the game."

  3. 'For 75 minutes we were excellent' - Bullenpublished at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

    FT: Ayr United 1-3 Kilmarnock

Ayr United manager Lee Bullen tells BBC Scotland: "They blew us away in the first 20 minutes, I've got to be honest with you. We started really slowly and they had too much for us in that period.

"Horrible to admit it, but that was the case.

"Going a man down, it was almost like damage limitation at that point because it could have been anything.

"But, credit to the boys. For 75 minutes, we were excellent and matched them in many areas."

Ayr United midfielder Kerr McInroy tells BBC Scotland: "It was really disappointing. We never played well.

"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb with the first 20 minutes. We were all over the place, just not defending set plays.

"We managed to stick in with 10 men and do all we could, hopefully nick a goal, but it wasn't to be."

It was summed up in both boxes. Kilmarnock dealt with everything Ayr threw at them and, at the other end, they put Ayr to bed after 16 minutes

  6. 'We wanted to put on a show' - Murraypublished at 21:47 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

    FT: Ayr United 1-3 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock midfielder and man of the match Fraser Murray tells BBC Scotland: "The main point was to try and get to the top.

"We've had a few chances this season to go top and we've not taken it. To do it against Ayr tonight has been brilliant.

"We wanted to get a quick start, so we wanted to go out there all guns blazing and put on a show for the fans."

A big performance and an even bigger result. They've had the biggest and best squad in the division and they haven't always shown it this season. Tonight, they put Arbroath under pressure and declared themselves as the title favourites

  8. FULL TIME Ayr United 1-3 Kilmarnockpublished at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

Kilmarnock’s three goals in the opening 16 minutes had this game wrapped up early doors.

Rory McKenzie, Oli Shaw and Jack Sanders gave Killie all three points and they go to bed top of the Scottish Championship – even if it is just for one night.

A night to forget for Ayr, though. Kerr McInroy produced a fine strike, but they will need to put this one far behind them if they are to push for the play-offs.

    Reaction to follow.

The contrast between the first and second half for Ayr is incredible. They're a man down, with nothing to lose, but their energy and intent to go forward is so different. Lee Bullen will be scratching his head thinking 'why didn't we start like this?'

  12. YELLOW CARD Taylor (Kilmarnock)published at 21:20 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

    Ayr United 1-3 Kilmarnock

Ash Taylor on in the 72nd minute - booked in the 73rd with 17-year-old Fraser Bryden getting under the big Welsh centre-half's skin after an aerial battle.

Jack Sanders almost has his second!

Another corner is flicked on at the front post and the Kilmarnock defender is there, but he blasts his volley into the back of the net. Not a dissimilar move to Oli Shaw's goal in the first half.

Well, it should be four for Kilmarnock. Oli Shaw breaks clear and, with a two-on-one, he blazes over the bar instead of squaring to unmarked fellow striker Kyle Lafferty.

Will Kilmarnock live to regret that chance?
