    Allan Preston
    Ex-Hearts defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

The two centre-halves of St Mirren were petrified of Simms' pace over the top. That allowed Boyce to get into pockets of space and play passes. Simms will be a really good striker, he just needs to be more natural with his finishing. He reminds me of Duncan Ferguson. He wasn't prolific but what a handful he was on the pitch.

  3. 'A proper cup tie' - Neilsonpublished at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    FT: Hearts 4-2 St Mirren

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson tells BBC Scotland: "It was a great game, a proper cup tie.

"I'm really pleased to go through. It's cup football, when the wonder strike goes in there's that uncertainty, but over the course, we probably deserved to win.

"We want to try win cups, Europe is great if we can get there but it's about winning cups."

    Quote Message

We spoke about McKay on the left hand side in the first half. It was so different in the second-half. Atkinson was integral to Hearts' forward play, supporting them by getting forward. Hearts definitely deserved the win tonight.

  5. 'I would've taken semis over that goal' - Ronanpublished at 21:54 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    FT: Hearts 4-2 St Mirren

St Mirren midfielder Connor Ronan, who scored an absolute peach of a goal to level the game, tells BBC Scotland: Overall, I'm disappointed.

"It was an amazing feeling to get that goal, but I would've taken getting through to the semis over that goal."

    Quote Message

There will be a lot of regret in the St Mirren camp. To be 2-0 down at Tynecastle to such a good side, to get it back to 2-2... I genuinely felt the momentum was there for St Mirren. But, they played their part in a brilliant cup tie and the better team went through.

  11. FULL-TIME: Hearts 4-2 St Mirrenpublished at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    What a game.

Hearts are the first side to book their place at Hampden after seeing off a spirited St Mirren side in a six-goal thriller.

Beni Baningime and Peter Haring had Hearts two up, but St Mirren got themselves back into the game through Eamonn Brophy and Connor Ronan, who smashed in a goal of the season contender.

However, goals from substitute Aaron McEneff and Ellis Simms restored the hosts' lead.

Another really good goal from Hearts. They've certainly finished the game the stronger of the the two sides. The delivery from McEneff is absolutely excellent. Ellis Simms, his movement is really good and with the deftest of touches he strokes it home. The game looks to be over now.
