    Quote Message

The expectation is very much on Hearts. They're the home team, third in the league, and results in the league point to Hearts being stronger. But this is a good St Mirren team that have good cup pedigree. It all points to a very, very close game.

It could have very easily been Livingston hosting tonight's tie.

After easing past Auchinleck Talbot 5-0, Hearts and Livi played out a goalless draw in the previous round.

Craig Gordon was the hero as the Tynecastle side came out on top in a penalty shootout.

As for St Mirren, the Buddies have overcome lower-league opposition twice to reach the quarters.

Ayr were dispatched 2-0 at Somerset Park in January before League 2 leaders Kelty Hearts were thrashed 4-0 in Paisley last month.

  3. Buddies buoyant after late midweek winpublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    Hearts v St Mirren (19:45)

Although the stats look daunting for St Mirren, the Paisley side are bouncing into the capital with a spring in their step after a late midweek win at Dundee.

After a run of three defeats, Stephen Robinson got his first win as new boss thanks to Connor Ronan's injury-time header.

The Buddies were semi-finalists in both cup competitions last year and boast a manager that knows what reaching Hampden is all about.

Robinson made both Scottish and League Cup finals with Motherwell in 2017-18, but lost on both occasions to Brendan Rodgers' Celtic.

  4. Stats point in Hearts' favourpublished at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    Hearts v St Mirren (19:45)

Hearts have just about boxed off third spot in the Premiership this term - they sit 13 points clear of Hibs in fourth.

The gap between Robbie Neilson's side and St Mirren, who are ninth in a congested top fight, is 14 points.

Neilson's men have also won all three clashes with tonight's visitors this season, including a 2-0 victory in Paisley at the end of February.

As well as that, St Mirren are without a win at Tynecastle in five attempts.

    Quote Message

Neilson might have something up his sleeve - he could switch to a three after 10 or 15 minutes. Kingsley is a massive player for Hearts and you'd like him up the park, but he's so dependable.

  7. Alnwick returns in only St Mirren switchpublished at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    Hearts v St Mirren (19:45)

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson makes just one change to the side that earned an injury-time win at Dundee on Wednesday.

The only change sees keeper Jak Alnwick, returning after a self-isolation stint, come in for Dean Lyness.

On the eye, it's two attacking line-ups from both managers.

  8. Three changes for injury-hit Heartspublished at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    Hearts v St Mirren (19:45)

Robbie Neilson has made three changes to the Hearts side that started last weekend's 2-2 draw at Dundee United.

John Souttar, Peter Haring and Gary Mackay-Steven, the trio dropping out, all went off injured in that game.

In come Andy Halliday, Peter Haring and Ben Woodburn.

A rack of injuries has the Hearts bench looking pretty weak, only seven names on there.

A 19:45 kick-off on a Saturday night? Top-tier stuff. Atmosphere should be an absolute cracker.
