When Middlesbrough get that first ball forward right, and then the lay-off, they've got an opportunity to break the lines and attack Chelsea. Those first two passes are critical.

A Boro player handled the corner as it came in so Chelsea have a free-kick.

    Fairly even opening I'd say.

Isaiah Jones' game is so explosive and energic you expect him to tire, but he went all the way into extra time against Tottenham tracking back to his own goal line like that. That is what Christian Pulisiic is going to have to get used to.

Matt Crooks overhits a cross but this is a good spell from Boro.

Isaiah Jones gets past Malang Sarr twice but his cross is cut out. Corner.

Boro's Isaiah Jones does well to get in front of Christian Pulisic as he chases a long ball down the left wing and gets a shove from the American. Free out.

It was a big chance for Chelsea. Romelu Lukaku, at the near post, just didn't read [the cross] in time. Dael Fry did read it but got himself into a horrible position. He didn't know whether to take a touch or not, but Boro just about managed to scrape through that.

Wow, what a start to this game.

Chelsea have really settled in and created a good few chances, but there's going to be plenty of chances for both sides you'd feel.

Almost a big Chelsea chance. Mason Mount whips in a cross which Boro's Dael Fry misses with a diving header and Romelu Lukaku and Christian Pulisic are both inches away from turning in.

Paul Hardy: Odds are against us and tbf Chelsea could be a bit leggy after a long coach journey but still a tough game nonetheless. Chelsea obviously have massive quality but we have the 12th Man!!! Come in Boro, time to make history!

    Alan Shearer

With this crowd, the way they're revved up and the belief they have now in their team, it's going to be very difficult for Chelsea. But I just think with the quality and the talent they've got, it might be just a step too far for Middlesbrough.
