  4. 'Is this is Fraser's punishment period?'published at 22:24 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Poland

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

    Quote Message

Ryan Fraser is playing exceptionally well at a very high level. He is persona non grata at the moment given his previous poor behaviour. Maybe this is his punishment period and he's going to come back in. Maybe. He's a good player.

  5. 'Maybe McGinn was too honest'published at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Poland

On Scotland's potential penalty, when John McGinn appeared to be clipped when rounding Lukasz Skorupski, Steve Clarke says: "Maybe [he was] too honest. John probably thought he was going to score but the little clip just slowed him up."

The Scotland boss also has praise for Nathan Patterson whose fine display was all the more impressive given his lack of game time at Everton.

"Nathan Patterson was good but I knew he would be because he’s working with good Premier League level players at Everton," Clarke adds.

"If he’s training hard and working well, he’s always got minutes in his legs. I took him off, saw him stretching, and I want some more minutes out of him on Tuesday night."

  6. Clarke pleased despite 'soft' penalty concessionpublished at 22:17 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Poland

Scotland manager Steve Clarke tells BBC Radio Scotland: "It was a good game for us, really competitive as we thought it would be. A lot to be pleased about.

"The penalty decision for me is a penalty decision for a friendly game. It was soft. But it keeps the unbeaten run going.

"We’d have loved to have gone seven wins in a row, there was a chance for another clean sheet, we didn’t look like conceding, we had good control of the game. The penalty decision puts a little downer on it but we had a lot of good work tonight."

Ryan Jack is the one midfielder who is a bit different to the rest. He reads the game so well, has such control, and almost sacrifices himself so others can play. He is very selfless. He would be a really good asset.

Steve Clarke is sure to make changes for Tuesday's friendly visit to Vienna, so we should get a look at some of those options in the squad.

Austria are going to be very downhearted after losing their World Cup play-off semi-final tonight, so they may well leave out some of the big names and experiment a bit.

It's a bit rough being asked to play again so soon after such disappointment.

Steve Clarke has options. He has different ways he can go now. He will have to leave out good players. Aaron Hickey came into the mix tonight and very, very soon, he will be a live contender. It is really positive.

  10. 'Hanley could be exposed'published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Poland

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

If you examine that closely, at that level Grant Hanley could be exposed. I thought he'd got rid of that, but he let it back in tonight. He did some good things too. You need a stopper in the middle of the three centre-backs.

  11. Postpublished at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Poland

Scotland were on top for long spells and manager Steve Clarke will be largely positive.

However, the visitors, minus star man Robert Lewandowski, did have a couple of great chances before Kieran Tierney's header went in.

Bartosz Salamon nodded over with the goal at his mercy in the first half and Billy Gilmour produced a stunning goal-line clearance to deny Krzysztof Piatek moments before the opening goal.

It was better fare than most friendlies and the near 40,000 crowd have helped raise a lot of money for Unicef's efforts in Ukraine.

Would we be confident that if there was VAR tonight, John McGinn would have won a penalty and Kryzstof Piatek's would have been overturned?

  13. 'Con job doesn't matter that much'published at 21:54 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Poland

    Tom English
BBC Scotland's chief sports writer on Sportsound

    Quote Message

The penalty was never a penalty. It was a con job and the referee fell for it. But it doesn't matter that much to me. The performance was decent. Kieran Tierney was brilliant. Billy Gilmour was excellent. There were an awful lot of good things in that. They've lost that winning run, but the momentum continues, and it will need to continue. Scotland are in a good place.

  14. Piatek penalty stings Scotlandpublished at 21:50 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Poland

Here's Krzysztof Piatek clearly hurdling the leg of Craig Gordon before toppling over to win that late, late penalty, which he converted.

Maybe Grant Hanley gave him a nudge on the way? If he did the contact was minimal.

  15. Wales through to play-off finalpublished at 21:45 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Poland

While the dust settles at Hampden, let's have a look at what's happening elsewhere.

Wales are through to meet either Scotland or Ukraine for a place at the World Cup after beating Austria 2-1 in Cardiff.

Poland are still waiting to find out who they will face on Tuesday as Sweden and Czech Republic go into extra-time in Stockholm.

  16. 'You would be raging if this was a competitive game'published at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    FT: Scotland 1-0 Poland

    Craig Levein
Former Scotland manager on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

I don't think there's a touch from anyone. I think Piatek made up his mind as soon as it was 50-50 for the ball, that he was going down. It's a friendly match, you would be absolutely raging if this was a competitive game. We controlled most of the game, it was a fairly good performance. You could argue we didn't create enough opportunities to scored. Steve Clarke will be slightly disappointed with the outcome, but I think he'll be reasonably happy with is players.

  17. 'A disappointing end'published at 21:42 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

Craig Gordon comes out, doesn't get the ball, throws his leg out. It's a disappointing end.

  18. FULL-TIME Scotland 1-1 Polandpublished at 90+3 mins

Kieran Tierney's first Scotland goal looked like it would be enough for a seventh successive win for Steve Clarke's side.

However, a terrible penalty decision leaves a rather bitter taste at the end.

Yet another draw between these two nations, the sixth in 11 meetings.
