Ryan Christie is tempted into that strike. The moral of the story is put it in the net. If I'm Che Adams I'm saying, 'put it in front of me' because Adams makes a great run off to the left.

With the Polish defence backing off, Ryan Christie strides forward with purpose before thumping a shot just too high from 20 yards.

Salamon has to do much better. He loses Grant Hanley, drifts away from him, and it's over Hanley's head. You have to defend the situation. Hanley is defending two Poles. It's easier for Salamon to hit the target than miss.

    What a miss!

Grzegorz Krychowiak floats a lovely cross into the Scotland penalty box and defender Bartosz Salamon plants a header over the top from six yards.

    A huge let-off for Scotland.

It's a bit of a carnival atmosphere. Chants of "Polska, Polska" will be seared into my soul for the next fortnight...

The Scotland fans are fair making themselves heard, too. That electrifying run from Nathan Patterson brought the place to its feet, while every time the Scots get within "ach, why not" range of the Polish goal the anticipation is palpable.

It actually makes you wonder just how magnificent this place would have been last summer if more than 12,000 punters were inside.

The press looks a lot more aggressive from Scotland. Nathan Patterson is exerting a hell of a lot of pressure and Scotland are getting possession from it.

    Ouch!published at 16 mins

    Scotland 0-0 Poland

Scott McTominay goes right through the back of Jakub Moder and can count himself rather fortunate to avoid a booking.

From the free-kick, a flat pass skids into the penalty box and Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon watches it all the way to snaffle the ball up.

Grant Hanley is up at the back post area to get his head on a corner and loops the ball towards the front stick, where Che Adams is waiting. The Southampton striker is just muscled out and Scotland will have another corner.

The second delivery is emphatically punched clear by the goalie.

Excellent. He picks up the ball inside the attacking half. He is so composed, so direct, carries the ball with so much pace. He just can't get his foot around the shot, drags it, and it's into the goalkeeper's hands. But that is what Nathan Patterson gives you.

  14. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Scotland 0-0 Poland

A fantastic driving run from Nathan Patterson as he speeds off from just inside the Polish half and makes his way into the penalty area. The Scotland wing-back cuts on to his left for his shot and can't get any power on it, so the keeper makes a comfortable stop.

  15. Postpublished at 7 mins

Che Adam is chasing a cross from the left but Polish goalkeeper Skorupski comes off his line to gather confidently.

Scotland look comfortable. You could describe Poland's set-up as an aggressive press, three players up against the Scottish centre-backs. There is a confidence in the stadium, the players are happy to be here, and hopefully the performance reflects that.

  19. SFA donate ticket proceeds to Ukraine appealpublished at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    Scotland v Poland (19:45)

Ian Maxwell also told us about the financial aid being raised by tonight's friendly, with the Scottish FA contributing a chunk of ticket proceeds to Uniced.

"We’re donating £10 from every ticket sold, and every ticket under £10 we are donating that full fee. We are expecting a crowd of just under 40,000 which means we’ll be able to make a donation of around £350,000.

"That’s a fantastic achievement and I’m really proud we can say that. Anybody who can’t make the game tonight and is watching at home, there is a text to donate LED going around the pitch. We would encourage everybody who can to give to such an important appeal."

  20. 'We want to give Ukraine every chance'published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

    Scotland v Poland (19:45)

Scottish FA chief executive Ian Maxwell has been discussing the postponed Ukraine semi-final on BBC Radio Scotland.

"Ultimately it’s Fifa’s competition so they’ll make the decision," Maxwell says. "We want to give Ukraine every chance to be able to fulfil that fixture. It’s really difficult to predict, there is no certainty around everything.

"We’re talking about football in the context of a war. We have to let what happens, happen over the next couple of months and take things from there."

On Scotland's role in the UK and Ireland's joint expression of interest in hosting Euro 2028, Maxwell says: "I think we’ll have the best bid, the decision will be made later in 2023 and I’m sure we’ll come out on top.

"The Russian bid is a surprise. The Scottish FA board made a statement not so long ago saying we wouldn’t take part in any football at any level against Russia and that still remains.

"The next stage is that we’ll get the bid criteria documentation from Uefa and assess the stadiums we have against that. There's been nothing firm in terms of stadiums at this point."
