A first booking at London Stadium as Jack Cork brings down Manuel Lanzini.

Moments later Nick Pope shows his class with a superb one-handed save to keep out Jarrod Bowen.

Pope saw that late but flung himself across his line to keep that out.

So far so good for Burnley. They've negotiated the opening five minutes without any scares. Predictably, West Ham have started on the front foot but have not been able to create a serious chance.

  11. Is Dyche sacking naive?published at 14:12 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

West Ham v Burnley (14:15 BST)

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on The Friday Football Social

It does feel naive in some ways. To balance it out, the team haven't been getting enough good results and that's with the guy who had been there for 10 years and was the heart and soul of the club.

But for it to happen at this moment in time, it feels to me like maybe something has happened. Otherwise they would have been planning for a while to bring somebody in straight away.

This could turn out to be a stroke of genius. We saw it at Leeds not long ago with Marcelo Bielsa leaving Leeds and what he had achieved.

It felt as though he was maybe done a disservice by being let go but we fast forward six weeks and Jesse Marsch has done an absolutely fantastic job.

You have to let go of that emotional attachment. Unfortunately this is a game that never sits still. It's about moving forward and so far this season Burnley haven't been good enough.

  18. Maddison 'can do no more'published at 13:55 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Newcastle v Leicester (14:15 BST)

    Leicester City

James Maddison is knocking on the door for an England recall in World Cup year, says Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers.

Maddison has helped the Foxes reach the Europa Conference League semi-final and Rodgers described his contribution in the quarter-final triumph over PSV Eindhoven as "wonderful".

The 25-year-old midfielder has not featured for the Three Lions since winning his first cap in 2019.

"He can do no more to get into the England squad," added Rodgers. "He is obviously playing at a very high level and contributing in big games.

"He can't do any more other than just stay consistent and focused. He is up there with his numbers and work-rate."

  19. 'Big set-back for Burnley'published at 13:52 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

Burnley's result at Norwich last weekend was as bad as their result over Everton a couple of days before was good.

I expected the Clarets to kick on after beating the Toffees but to follow up a huge win like that by going to the bottom side and losing is a big set-back. I know Maxwel Cornet missed a big chance to equalise at 1-0, but I thought Norwich were comfortable.

What might help Burnley here is that West Ham had a huge Europa League game on Thursday night. They have a small squad and that is the game where David Moyes will pick his strongest team. Even so, I don't see the Hammers losing this one at home.

    Lawro's prediction: 1-1

  20. Howe not expecting 'revolution'published at 13:48 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe says it will not be the "revolution that everyone thinks it will be" at the club in the summer.

A Saudi Arabian-backed takeover of the Magpies in October 2021 has made them one of the richest clubs in the world.

They spent £90m in the January transfer window and Howe will be looking at making further additions this summer.

"I am happy with this squad while acknowledging that time never stands still," said Howe. "You have to continue to improve and evolve so I have no problem looking outward and saying we do need certain things.

"But I do not think it will be the revolution that everyone thinks it will be, and it can't be because we are under financial restrictions."
