The Championship’s form side will be looking to cement their play-off spot today.

Unbeaten in their past nine games with six wins and three draws, only Fulham have claimed more points than Forest since Steve Cooper took charge back in September.

They could finish the day as high as third and with Bournemouth still to play, the fans may even be dreaming of an automatic promotion spot by the end of the season.

Having never really been drawn into any serious relegation battle, Birmingham City are all but safe. Any suggestions of the players being on the beach are rubbished by the fact they have kept three clean sheets in the past four games and only lost one of their past five.

In fact, if they can beat Forest and Fulham get three points tomorrow against Coventry City, then they’ll ensure Fulham’s promotion!

Lyle Taylor was the match-winner from the spot against West Brom in the Blues’ last game but he’s unable to play against his parent club this weekend.

He told the Football Daily’s 72+ podcast that he’ll be watching in the stands but be on the fence as far as who should win - but without him Birmingham will have to be at their best at the City Ground.

  2. Relegation-threatened Rams look to stay in touchpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Swansea v Derby (15:00 BST)

Financially-stricken and relegation-threatened Derby Country travel to Swansea today knowing their league survival is in the balance while their existence seems somewhat more secure for the first time in months.

Wayne Rooney's Rams are in action for the first time since US businessman Chris Kirchner was confirmed as preferred bidder to buy the club.

Defeat today could see them slip 12 points adrift of safety with five matches remaining.

Swansea are looking to extend their unbeaten run to five games, although their only draw in that time was a goalless stalemate at home to Birmingham City last month.

  3. Can Rovers return to form?published at 14:41 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Blackburn v Blackpool (15:00 BST)

Blackburn have endured a 2022 to forget so far.

They were denied a win at Coventry last week by a VERY late equaliser and start today two points outside the top six.

However, striker Ben Brereton Diaz returned from injury in that game and starts today. If he can return to his earlier season form they could yet nick a play-off spot after all.

Lancashire neighbours Blackpool will be smarting after losing at rivals Preston on Tuesday and they'll hope to get make some amends for that loss today.

It was a good performance and the boys gave their all.

Two good teams but it's galling that Sheffield United have not taken their chances and they've been denied a gilt-edged penalty.

But it's a good point at the end of the day.

Absolutely incredible, I don't know how he's managed to do that. It was such a gifted chance.

    Honours even.

Sheffield United will feel they did enough to win this but they have to settle for a point.

Filip Uremovic could (should?) have won it for the home side with the last kick of the match but the defender slashed his effort well wide.

The Blades should have had a late penalty when Nat Phillips kicked Morgan Gibbs-White.

The Cherries, who are now seven points clear of third-placed Luton, will be content to leave with a point.

    OH NO!

A ball is clipped into the area by Conor Hourihane and Ben Davies heads it down for Filip Uremovic.

The Croatian defender is making just his second appearance for the Blades and he has the chance to be the hero with the last kick...

He crashes his close range effort well wide.

    That's full-time.

Look up 'taking one for the team' in a dictionary and you'll see this foul.

  9. Forest look to consolidate play-off spotpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

Nottingham Forest v Birmingham (15:00 BST)

Steve Cooper's in-form Nottingham Forest leapt into the play-off places midweek with victory against Coventry City.

The Reds enter the final month of the campaign having not lost in the league since the end of January.

Having beaten Blues 3-0 earlier in the season, Forest are looking for their first league double over Birmingham City since the 1999-00 season.

Goals have been hard to come by in recent Blues games. Their previous four games have seen just three goals scores (one for and two against). Crucially, that one goal they did score was the winner against West Brom last time out.

    Reading v Cardiff (15:00 BST)

Reading have found a bit of form at just the right time.

Paul Ince's men have claimed two wins and two draws from their past four matches to increase their advantage over the relegation zone to eight points.

Another win today would got a long way to guaranteeing their second tier status.

Today's opponents Cardiff fell to a thumping 4-0 home defeat by local rivals Swansea last time, having won three and drawn one of their previous four.

That's so frustrating. There is so much at stake when you're trying to win promotion or get into the play-offs.

That's as clear a penalty as you could see.

  15. Boro look to bounce back againpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Middlesbrough v Hull (15:00 BST)

Middlesbrough fell to a narrow home defeat by champions-elect Fulham on Wednesday.

They're yet to suffer successive defeats since Chris Wilder took over in November and the play-off chasers will be confident of avoiding such a fate today.

Visitors Hull have won just two of their past 12 matches and might still need one more win to guarantee their Championship survival.

The Tigers claimed a 2-0 win over Boro when the sides last met in October, though both have changed manager since then.
