Now that is a waste. John McGinn is over a free kick in a central position but his lofted cross is too heavy and drifts out of play.

Quote MessageMcGinn doesn't follow through the way he would've liked to there. I think that's a bit of a waste
Austria 0-0 Scotland
Stuart Armstrong threads a lovely pass through for John McGinn to run on to and the Scotland midfielder clips a first-time effort just wide.
A defender was sliding in and it looks a bit like McGinn wanted to avoid getting clattered. It might have been different in a competitive match.

Quote MessageJack Hendry wasn't strong enough there, but it's not too bad when you have a goalkeeper like that behind you
Austria 0-0 Scotland
Grant Hanley has to look sharp to head clear and Austria have the first corner of the night.
From the Marcel Sabitzer delivery, the towering Sasa Kalajdzic crashes a header on target and it needs a top reaction save from Craig Gordon to push the ball over.
Austria 0-0 Scotland
Slick passing from Scotland opens up the Austria defence and John McGinn meets a cross from the right flush on the half-volley.
There's plenty of oomph on the shot but it flies straight at goalkeeper Dan Bachmann.

A peep of the whistle from Hungarian referee Tamas Bognar and away we go.

The Scotland fans inside a sparsely populated stadium are fairly belting out Flower of Scotland.
Near silence for the home national anthem.

Lyndon Dykes is back in the squad after missing the last three matches through suspension and injury.
The QPR striker was red hot for Scotland last year, scoring in four successive matches - and they were all vital goals too.
He notched in 1-0 wins over Moldova, Austria and the Faroe Islands and recovered from missing a penalty to net in the 3-2 victory against Israel.
Dykes has missed seven games for his club with a hamstring problem, so we'll have to wait and see if he gets a run out this evening.

The last time Austria celebrated a home win against Scotland was in 1978.
Ally MacLeod was still in charge a few months after the World Cup debacle in Argentina and a side including Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Archie Gemmill, Andy Gray and Joe Jordan went down 3-2 in a European Championship qualifier.
It would be MacLeod's 17th and final match in charge of the national side.

Scotland are unbeaten on their last five visits to Austria (3W 2D).
Garry O'Connor scored the only goal in the last friendly meeting, which was in 2007. O'Connor also found the net in a 2-2 draw in 2005.
There was a 0-0 in Vienna when both nations qualified for the 1998 World Cup. Neither country has been back to the tournament since...

The first meeting between these nations did not go well for Scotland when they were on the losing end of a 5-0 drubbing, orchestrated by visionary coach Dr Hugo Meisl, way back in 1931.
Overall, Austria lead the way with eight wins to Scotland's six and there have been seven draws.

Quote MessageLewis Ferguson has had a lot to contend with this season with the transfer request and continued speculation over his future. He's handled that and is at the top of his game just now. He has a goal threat too and gives more to the team when he's given licence to get forward rather than being used as a midfield sitter.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke tells BBC Sportsound he wants to see a "continuation of what we've been doing well recently".
"We wanted to pick up momentum against Poland and keep going," he adds. "We did that. It's a chance for a few different faces to start the game.
"Over the course of my tenure we've been trying to improve the squad. You see tonight we have strength in depth, hopefully they show that on the pitch.
"I'd be very surprised if the Austrians weren't up for the game tonight, they are losing their head coach and they'll want to give him a good send off."

Having finished last year on a high, Scotland were just moments away from a seventh successive win on Thursday evening at Hampden.
However, a highly dubious penalty won and converted by Krzysztof Piatek earned Poland a draw deep into stoppage time.
Kieran Tierney scored his first Scotland goal, while there were impressive showings from young guns Billy Gilmour and Nathan Patterson and a debut for teenager Aaron Hickey off the bench.

Austria were second seeds in Group F, but finished fourth.
They got to the play-offs via the Nations League back door but, after that defeat to Wales, manager Franco Foda has decided to step down and this will be his last match in charge.
"It was a great honour for me to coach and work with this team," he said yesterday. "It was four-and-a-half great years.
"My successor can look forward to a team with impeccable character that is good and has a lot of potential for development."
Foda has won 26 of his 46 games and the highlight of his reign was a run to the last 16 at the delayed Euro 2020 when they took eventual winners Italy to extra time at Wembley.

Scotland and Austria know all about each other since they were World Cup group qualifying rivals just last year.
John McGinn's overhead kick rescued a 2-2 draw at Hampden 12 months ago after Grant Hanley had scored in between a double from Sasa Kalajdzic.
In September, a penalty from Lyndon Dykes gave Scotland all three points and provided the momentum for Steve Clarke's side to finish as runners-up behind Denmark.

Are these Scotland fans on scooters going for a Kraftwerk vibe or is it more of a Sons of Anarchy tribute?

Quote MessageYou could question some of Clarke's choices but he has done so well as Scotland manager that you put trust in him. He has been working with the players, he knows their fitness, whether they need game time. There's a balance between trying to get some young players in and bringing experienced players such as Ryan Jack back.
