    Oh dear.

The Braga fans have produced an incredible display on the far side with giant B, R, A, G and A letters filling a stand each. Unfortunately for the poor bloke in charge of the R, it spent the entire time at a 90 degree angle.

    You had one job...

This is a tie where both teams would be happy. Looking at Leipzig, Atalanta, Barcelona, West Ham, Lyon, Frankfurt... these two teams would have wanted each other. It's not arrogant, you just want the easiest route.

The Estádio Municipal de Braga is a beauty of a stadium. With a cliff face down one end, it first 'burst onto the scene' at Euro 2004.

It's definitely unique, anyway. What a stage for what should be a fascinating contest.

We are now getting a video on the big screen, built into a mountain, of a man with a cello playing the Europa League theme at a ridiculously loud level on the Braga pitch. It all feels a bit Game Of Thrones up here. Very dramatic

    Braga v Rangers (20:00)

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst on BT Sport: "Disappointment is a part of football especially when it's against Celtic but the next game comes quickly so we need to be ready.

"You want to see a reaction and it's a two-legged tie so we have to take a good result back to Ibrox.

"They have beaten Sheriff from the Champions League and Monaco, any team that makes it to this stage is good but I'm sure we'll be ready for the tie and go for a good result today."

Under 20 minutes to go and things are ramping up.

Rangers fans are in the top tier of the stand opposite the dugouts. Certainly looks like more of them over there than their home counterparts.

The locals are now waving flags and twirling scarves to some tune which, if you open your window, you can probably hear from Govan.

  11. Pre-match stats: Lucky number seven for Rangers?published at 19:47 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Braga v Rangers (20:00)

    • Braga and Rangers' only previous meetings in Europe came at the last 32 stage of the Europa League in 2019-20, with Rangers winning home and away.
    • Rangers have reached the quarter-final stage of a major European competition for the first time since 2008, when they finished as runners-up in the Uefa Cup.
    • Rangers have progressed from six out of 11 European quarter-finals.
    • Braga have been defeated only twice across their past 18 home matches in Europe, winning 11, although the first of their two losses came against Rangers in February 2020.
    • Rangers have conceded at least one goal in each of their past seven away games in major European competition, their longest such run since a 13-game stretch between 1993 and 1999.
  12. A repeat of 2020?published at 19:44 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Braga v Rangers (20:00)

With the other teams Rangers could have been paired with, they couldn't have picked a better draw.

That's on paper, of course, and Braga's feelings will be the same.

But the Ibrox side will take confidence from their scalp over the Portuguese side two years ago.

Steven Gerrard's men overturned a two-goal deficit in Govan to win a frantic first leg 3-2 before an accomplished 1-0 win in the away leg booked a place in the Europa League last 16.

If Giovanni van Bronkhorst's side can repeat that feat, it will be a semi-final spot they will be booking this time around.

Rangers have previous here. Only two years ago, Braga were seen off over two legs as Steven Gerrard's team reached the last 16, but it will be a different challenge for the Glasgow side this time around.

Under Carlos Carvalhal, the average age of the Braga team has plummeted as their stock has risen. Thirteen academy kids have received a debut under the former Swansea boss.

Their form has been formidable. A Portuguese Cup was earned in his first year in charge, while this season both FC Sheriff and Monaco have not halted his young bucks. Benfica were also undone on Friday, for good measure.

Carvalhal claims the game is "50/50". He will be confident another scalp can be taken.

  18. What do we know about Braga?published at 19:26 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Braga v Rangers (20:00)

Former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City boss Carlos Carvalhal took over as Braga boss in July 2020 after a spell in charge of Primeira Liga rivals Rio Ave.

Under the three-time Braga player, Carvalhal's side are on course to finish fourth for a second successive season.

Their best performance in Europe came in 2011, when they lost to Porto in the Europa League final, but they knocked out Monaco 3-1 on aggregate last month to reach their first quarter-final since losing to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2016.

That came after finishing second in their qualifying group behind Red Star Belgrade, who Rangers defeated to reach this stage, and ahead of Midtjylland, who knocked Celtic out of Champions League qualifying.

Captained by winger Ricardo Horta, the second top-scorer in the Primeira Liga this season with 15 goals, it is a squad with no household names but full of youthful promise.

I've been critical of Alfredo Morelos this season but he's a massive miss. There's a lot of pressure on him, week in week out, to get goals for Rangers. That's now a problem for them. You can't put all your eggs in one basket.

  20. How much will Rangers miss Morelos?published at 19:20 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Braga v Rangers (20:00)

It was clear see how much Rangers missed Alfredo Morelos' presence in Sunday's derby defeat.

The Colombia forward has since been ruled out for the remainder of the season after the striker underwent surgery on a thigh injury.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala in reserve, but no-one in the Rangers squad can match what Morelos brings on the European stage.

If you need any proof of that, Morelos has been directly involved in 21 goals in 33 Europa League games (15 goals, 6 assists) for his side.

Since his competition debut for Rangers in October 2018, only Manchester United maestro Bruno Fernandes (25) has been involved in more goals.
