    HT: Fulham 3-0 Preston

Preston started really brightly and forced two excellent saves out of Marek Rodak.

But Fulham are slick and relentless in the final third - the passing and movement is superb.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is a force - 40 goals in a season, behave yourself.

The job is half done for Fulham. They have put in a huge performance in the first half after two underwhelming displays.

Preston created two good chances early in the game, forcing Marek Rodak into smart saves, but the home side never looked back after Aleksandar Mitrovic put them ahead.

Fabio Carvalho latched on to Neeskens Kebano's deflected cross to double the lead before Mitrovic hit his 40th Championship goal of the season soon before half-time to all but end the match.

It's been a pleasure this first half because it's been an absolute joy to watch and I'm sure the Fulham fans are enjoying it.

    Aleksandar Mitrovic

It's another quality team goal for Fulham, another assist for Harry Wilson and another goal for Aleksandar Mitrovic.

    That's 40 for the season!

Wilson runs at the defence, gets his head up and sees Mitrovic in space. The Serbian controls the ball with his first touch and finishes expertly with his second.

Is that the goal that sends his team to the top tier of English football? He looks like he might think it is.

He's on his hat-trick and now chasing a fourth match ball of this incredible goalscoring season.

It's a terrific goal. Carvalho is the first to react to the deflected ball into the area and Fulham are in total control.

The one thing they don't want to do is give away a goal and give Preston a lift with a few minutes to go until half-time. Just keep moving the ball quickly.

  7. 'An audacious finish'published at 20:22 British Summer Time 19 April 2022

I've got to say the work rate from Aleksandar Mitrovic is among the best I've seen.

Fabio Carvalho just ghosted in there and it's an audacious left-footed finish.

Ryan Lowe will be disappointed with the defending as Preston didn't track the runner.

Could this be a parting gift from Fabio Carvalho?

It's a long ball forward and the front three combine again.

Aleksandar Mitrovic plays the ball out to Neeskens Kebano and his cross deflects into the path of the apparently Liverpool-bound Carvalho, who is the quickest to react and double the score.

"We are going up, we are going up!" booms around the ground.

Fulham break at pace with Harry Wilson charging almost from his own area.

He could go himself but opts to play in Aleksandar Mitrovic, who wins the corner.

Preston quickly give away a second corner kick before clearing the ball.

Ben Whiteman goes hard into a challenge on Aleksandar Mitrovic and the home fans want a yellow card but there's nothing doing for the referee, a decision that's met with a chorus of boos.

Harrison Reed then heads a cross over the bar for Fulham as we edge towards the half-hour mark.

    Lovely backheel from Aleksandar Mitrovic!

Neeskens Kebano gets the ball down the left-hand side and plays it to Mitrovic, whose reverse pass finds Fabio Carvalho, but the youngster fires wide.

Preston are being forced into an early change, with Ched Evans being replaced by Sean Maguire. Evans hasn't looked right since that injury.

I've just seen it again, it's not a yellow card. Both players have gone in honestly for the ball and that's harsh on Tom Cairney.

Tom Cairney and Alistair McCann collide going for the ball near the centre spot and again we have a brief stoppage in play.

Cairney is booked for his troubles but both players are good to continue.

As I said before that was Aleksandar Mitrovic's 39th Championship goal of the season.

He's now just three behind Guy Whittingham's record of 42 for Portsmouth in the 1992/93 season.

He's got a long way to go if he's going to break the all-time record for goals in the English second tier - a whopping 59 by Middlesbrough's George Camsell all the way back in 1926-27!

    League One update

We've also had an early goal in League One, where second-placed Rotherham trail Burton - former Manchester United player Cameron Borthwick-Jackson with the goal.

The Millers had looked certainties for promotion but, as it stands, they have slipped below MK Dons and out of the top two.

That should settle some nerves in the stands!

Preston were looking threatening in the opening exchanges and carved out a couple of good chances.

Now how can they react? It was a real poacher's finish from Mitrovic and as it stands Fulham are going up.

Fulham are ahead and for the 39th time this season it's Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Joe Bryan wins a strong challenge and drives forward for the hosts. It looks like the shot might be on but he plays a perfectly weighted pass into the league's top scorer, who slots between Preston keeper Daniel Iversen's legs.

The hosts are off and running as they look to seal promotion tonight.

Early chances for the visitors as Cameron Archer plays it across for Ched Evans but Fulham keeper Marek Rodak manages to get a hand to it.

Ben Whiteman then almost squeezes in a shot via a deflection but the keeper was equal to it to push it up over the bar.

Two strong saves early on from Rodak as Preston look to get ahead.

I've seen Fulham a couple of times and that back line are really dodgy at times if you put them under pressure.
