It's going from bad to worse for Scunthorpe, who were relegated a couple of weeks ago.

Bradford were potentially on the beach, they're 18th in League Two, with nothing to play for.

Mark Hughes has only been in there for 10 games so the players are still at the stage when they're trying to impress him. With contracts up for grabs, it's an opportunity for those players to showcase what they're all about.

Stoke City are first to threaten in this one.

    Peterborough 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Peterborough won their previous two Championship games to keep hopes of avoiding relegation alive. That’s as many wins as they managed in their previous 27 games.

To prolong their hopes of staying in the division they need make it three win on the trot… they have only managed to do that at this level twice previously, doing so in March 1993 and December 2012.

Oldham Athletic v Salford City (15:00 BST)

Oldham boss John SheridanImage source, PA Media

For me, this is the biggest clash in League Two today.

Oldham, one of the Premier League's founder members, are fighting for their Football League lives.

They find themselves in the bottom two, four points adrift of Stevenage and Barrow, who are the two sides directly above them.

Oldham will go down if they lose and Stevenage and Barrow both win.

So, today's fixture is all or nothing. It's a must-win game if they are to have any chance of survival going into the last day.

The Latics faithful are going to have to get right behind John Sheridan's side in this Lancashire derby. Can Oldham beat the drop or is it too little too late?

The visitors in Salford City are still in with a small chance of making the play-offs, after a late injury-time equaliser by Ian Henderson against Barrow on Monday.

A point is no good for either side. I'm expecting a fast, frantic game of football with loads of fireworks.

  8. League Two fixturespublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

All games kick off at 15:00 BST

Forest Green Rovers can reach new footballing heights today by sealing promotion to League One for the first time in their history.

The Gloucestershire club need only a point on their short trip to Bristol Rovers to go up.

There is a chance that Exeter City can also confirm promotion today, but they need to beat Rochdale and other results have to go their way.

At the foot of the table it's looking grim for Oldham as they are in danger of joining Scunthorpe United in the National League next season.

A defeat by Salford City and wins for both Barrow and Stevenage could see the Latics drop out of the EFL.

    • Barrow v Sutton United
    • Bradford City v Scunthorpe United
    • Bristol Rovers v Forest Green Rovers
    • Exeter City v Rochdale
    • Harrogate Town v Carlisle United
    • Hartlepool United v Swindon Town
    • Leyton Orient v Northampton Town
    • Mansfield Town v Crawley Town
    • Oldham Athletic v Salford City
    • Stevenage v Tranmere Rovers

  9. Squad Goals' League One game of the daypublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

Sunderland v Cambridge United (15:00 BST)

Sunderland boss Alex NeilImage source, PA Media

Can you imagine what it’s going to be like at the Stadium of Light today? A near-full house, with the Sunderland fans expecting victory and at some point this is going to all come together or all end in tears.

Sunderland sit in seventh, one place outside the play-off positions. They have a game in hand in midweek against second-placed Rotherham, so beating mid-table Cambridge would set them up for a final tilt at hitting those play-off spots.

Add to that fourth-placed Sheffield Wednesday going to sixth-placed Wycombe and with at least one of them set to drop points, this is the Mackems’ moment.

Sunderland come into this 10-unbeaten and before their goalless draw with Plymouth last time out, had scored late goals in all of their previous eight games.

To me that speaks of the belief manager Alex Neil has instilled in his players, none more so than Elliot Embleton and Nathan Broadhead. Both have scored late winners and have contributed to 21 goals between them in the league with goals and assists.

On paper, Cambridge are on the beach. Mark Bonner has done a superb job in steering the side promoted from League Two last season to a solid mid-table finish. They’re certainly no pushovers though and although they lost 2-0 at home to Charlton in midweek, in cancelling Wigan’s promotion party with a 2-1 away win, they’ve shown they can go toe-to-toe with the best in the league.

Only Bonner knows how much he would love to add a victory in Sunderland to his side’s shock FA Cup third-round win at Newcastle and complete a North East double. I don’t think they’ll have packed their flip flops for Wearside.

  10. League One fixturespublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

All games kick off at 15:00 BST

Plenty can be decided at the top and bottom of the League One table today.

Leaders Wigan Athletic will seal promotion back to the Championship if they beat Plymouth, or if other results go in their favour.

Doncaster Rovers are six points from safety with just two games to play and have the worst goal difference in the league. Mathematically they have not been relegated yet, but it could happen today against Burton.

Wimbledon, who are two points better off than Rovers, can also go down today as they travel to another side in danger in Fleetwood.

    • Accrington Stanley v Lincoln City
    • Charlton Athletic v Shrewsbury Town
    • Cheltenham Town v Bolton Wanderers
    • Crewe Alexandra v Ipswich Town
    • Doncaster Rovers v Burton Albion
    • Fleetwood Town v AFC Wimbledon
    • Milton Keynes Dons v Morecambe
    • Portsmouth v Gillingham
    • Rotherham United v Oxford United
    • Sunderland v Cambridge United
    • Wigan Athletic v Plymouth Argyle
    • Wycombe Wanderers v Sheffield Wednesday

Peterborough United v Nottingham Forest (15:00 BST)

A huge game with potential ramifications at both ends of the table at London Road this afternoon.

Peterborough must win all three of their remaining games if they are to have any chance of avoiding relegation to League One and their task today could hardly be more difficult as they welcome high-flying Nottingham Forest.

Steve Cooper's side visit the Posh off the back of a resounding 4-0 thumping of West Brom and still have automatic promotion in their sights.

The Forest boss has virtually a complete squad to choose from for the run-in after the quicker-than-expected recovery of veteran defender Steve Cook from an ankle injury last month.

His return will make an already tough challenge even harder for a Posh side likely to be without Joe Ward.

However, Grant McCann's men also have cause for optimism after winning their past two matches and are unbeaten in four.

While things look bleak for Posh, they are determined not to go out without a fight but the visit of Forest might just be a step too far.

Derby County boss Wayne Rooney has said a few times this week that his relegated Rams will be looking to finish the season as strongly as possible.

They entertain Bristol City at what is expected to be an emotion-charged Pride Park.

Seventh-placed Millwall are knocking hard on the door of the play-off place after collecting seven points from their previous three games.

They travel to St Andrew's to face a Birmingham City side that have won just once in seven games and were thumped 6-1 at Blackpool last time out.

West Brom, 12th in the table and six point adrift of the play-off places, host a Coventry City side that sits one place and two points above them in the standings.

  13. Can QPR do it on a mild spring day in Stoke?published at 14:46 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Stoke v QPR (15:00 BST)

Queens Park Rangers manager Mark WarburtonImage source, PA Media

Stoke City dented Blackburn's play-off hopes last time out, will they repeat their effort against Queens Park Rangers today?

Victory against Derby, which relegated Wayne Rooney's Rams on Easter Monday, ended a six-game winless run and kept the west London club's aspirations intact.

QPR boss Mark Warburton said earlier this month that every remaining game was a must win. Nothing on that front has changed.

  14. In-form Swansea face faltering Boropublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Swansea v Middlesbrough (15:00 BST)

Expect this one to be a ding-dong battle between two sides scrambling to feature in the Championship play-offs.

Swansea are 13th in the table, seven points adrift of the top six with four matches remaining. They, however, are on a seven-game unbeaten run.

Boro's hopes have faded in recent weeks, having failed to win any of their past four games - a run that includes three defeats - but they remain in the play-off hunt.

Chris Wilder's Teessiders are three points behind sixth-placed Sheffield United with a game in hand.

  15. Will flying Forest send Peterborough down?published at 14:42 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

Peterborough v Nottingham Forest (15:00 BST)

Nottingham Forest, the club that made its worst start to a season for 108 years by collecting just one point form its opening seven games, have a chance of sealing a play-off spot with four games left.

    🤯

Sure, a number of results need to go their way, but mind-blowing stuff from The Tricky Trees to be in this position.

Peterborough are in *serious* danger of being the third side relegated from the Championship.

They need to upstage Forest today and go on to take maximum points from their remaining games. Oh, and they also need Reading to earn no more than one point from their remaining games.

  16. Blades blunted?published at 14:39 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

Sheff Utd v Cardiff (15:00 BST)

Sheffield United seem to have lost the winning habit at just the wrong time.

The Blades start today in sixth but are without a win in their past three.

Striker Oli McBurnie was ruled out for the rest of the season earlier in the week leaving their forward options looking slim at best.

Cardiff will hope to pull off an unlikely win as they look to end a tricky season on a high.

  17. Win and in for the Royalspublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

Hull City v Reading (15:00 BST)

Reading know what they have to do today.

Already seven points clear of Peterborough, a victory today will secure their Championship status and send the Posh down.

The Royals have found a bit of form at just the right time with just one defeat in their past six games.

Hull are very much looking towards next season but had recorded successive wins before a narrow defeat at Millwall on Monday.

  18. Heavyweights clash on the coastpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Bournemouth v Fulham (15:00 BST)

All eyes will be on Wembley later on this evening for Tyson Fury's bout against Dilian Whyte.

Before that there's a pretty tasty looking clash between the Championship's big-hitters.

Fulham secured promotion in midweek with a 3-0 win over Preston.

However, they won't want to rest on their laurels as they look to seal the Championship title and put one over former boss Scott Parker.

Huddersfield's win last night means that the Cherries are just a point clear of the Terriers, although they do have three games in hand.
