Let's not beat around the bush. This game could do with a goal. One will do. Let's hope there's more to come after England and Iran shared eight earlier.

I really like Steven Bergwijn as a player. He is a box of tricks and unfortunately for him things didn't work out at Spurs. He would have liked more game time but now he is at Ajax and doing great things.

Another free-kick for the Netherlands just outside the box. It's another good chance but once again it is easily dealt with by Senegal.

Cody Gakpo should have done better with that delivery.

Both sides are doing most of their attacking down the right. Senegal with 60% and the Dutch with 56.5%.

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

Senegal are enjoying a decent pocket of possession.

Almost a disaster for Frenkie de Jong, whose casual clearance inside his own box ends in an attempt for Idrissa Gueye.

Netherlands were lucky to escape there.

The feint inside Denzel Dumfries from Ismaila Sarr was brilliant to create that angle, it was going in from his right foot but for the header from Van Dijk.

Great defending by Virgil van Dijk!

Ismaila Sarr is allowed time to line up a shot outside the box and his powerful attempt is headed over the bar by the Liverpool player.

That looked like it was heading for the net.

Andrew: Senegal seem to be allowing the Dutch the freedom of Qatar in these early stages.

Plenty of huff and puff from both sides but it's worth noting that neither keeper has been forced to make a save.

Disappointed with that free-kick. From that position you'd like to see the ball fizzed into the back post with players running across Edouard Mendy's eye line. But it was all a bit too safe.

This feels like a proper World Cup game. There's noise all around us in the press box and the Dutch to our right have barely sat down all game. It's been a frantic first half - both teams are giving it a good go. It's been great!

Free-kick to the Dutch just outside the box after Matthijs de Ligt is caught. Six Orange shirts are sent into the penalty area waiting for the set-piece but it's a disappointing attempt which is easily cleared.

Just how wasteful have the Dutch been? They worked it really well to Frenkie De Jong, who tried to sit the goalkeeper down. He should have got the shot off on his left foot, but he chops inside and he cannot get a shot away as Senegal recover.

    Another change goes begging.

What a pass by Steven Bergwijn and Frenkie de Jong is presented with a glorious chance. But he takes one touch too many and Senegal are able to get it clear. That's a big chance wasted.

It is a really good opportunity for the Dutch again but Mendy is in the right place at the right time. That's a couple of opportunities for them now where they haven't been able to find the right final pass.

    Better by the Oranje.

A lovely pass by Cody Gakpo finds Denzel Dumfries inside the box but Senegal just about do enough.

Gakpo is causing problems. Moments later he sends in a cross which causes all sorts of problems.

It is a pretty even start. You have to say the Netherlands have had the best opportunity through Gakpo, who chose to not have a shot at goal. The Dutch should be ahead but Senegal have shown enough to worry them.

The drumming has got louder... You can't even hear the Dutch fans, and anyone who has been to a Netherlands game will know that's quite an achievement to silence them.

Senegal are breaking frequently and the Dutch need to be tighter at the back. Another attack by the Africans is brought to an end by an offside flag.
