  1. Thanks for following along with us

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

So that's it from us, a hugely disappointing day for Wales, who are really up against it as they bid to keep their World Cup campaign alive.

However, despite the last-gasp nature of their defeat today, there could be no denying Iran deserved to win.

No group of players are under greater pressure at this World Cup than the Iranians and they produced a fantastic display today, shrugging off their 6-2 hammering of England by playing fast, attractive football and pressing Wales all over the pitch.

Sometimes you just need to tip your hat and admit the other side was better, which is something Wales fans will be doing today.

Thank you for following along with us, let's all enjoy another bumper day of football.

Over to Qatar v Senegal we go.

You can follow all the action here.

  2. 'I take responsibility' - Page

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

Wales manager Rob Page has had his say after the defeat to Iran, speaking to BBC Radio Wales.

"Our performance before the red card was not acceptable.

"We hoped it would all come together today, but we were nowhere near the levels we've set and the standards we've set in recent games.

"One or two you can carry, but when there are so many off days there is only one outcome.

"I always take responsibility, that's my team, the sending off didn't help of course but at that point we had five forwards on the pitch so couldn't get a defensive shape.

"But yes I'll always take responsibility for performances.

"It's a difficult changing room at the minute but we will be ready [against England], it's a local derby and a great game to finish on and we'll be prepared to go."

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

We are just going to have time to sneak in some Robert Page reaction.

  4. 'We were bleeding in our pride'

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

    Iran's press conference has started.

Here is more reaction from Iran coach Carlos Queiroz:

"Two points. We played today with amazing character, which is the profile of our team. We play with a sense of unity, cohesion. After the first game we need to get back on route.

"The second point was to get rid of this bad feeling of bleeding. Football is a game of different moments. It’s not because you win or lose.

"Sometimes you lose your dignity, your honour, but of course in our first game we were bleeding in our pride. This was an opportunity to rebound. We put a good scarf [bandage] to stop the bleeding.

"We played brilliantly and deserved to win."

    Carlos Queiroz
  5. Post update

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

We are yet to hear from Wales boss Robert Page.

He rightly got a lot of credit for Wales' qualification and for his change in the USA game - bringing on Kieffer Moore - but today he arguably got his tactics all wrong.

Wales were overrun in midfield and imbalanced in attack, it was less Together Stronger and more, together, all in the penalty area at the same time.

The game bypassed Wales' midfield far too often.

  6. Post update

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

    Nathan Blake

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

That midfield position, that trio is where we have found it difficult in both games and we have emptied that position too often.

  7. Iran were the better team

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

    Jess Fishlock

    Wales' most-capped footballer

This is the World Cup, none of the Wales players would have experienced what this feels like before, no one has any idea what this type of pressure does.

Today Iran came in to this game, they got their tactics right, they got their structure right and they were the better team, 100%.

  8. 'A heartbreaking but deserved defeat'

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

You can read Dafydd Pritchard's match report and watch the highlights in case you missed any of today's action.

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

What you've seen from the likes of Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen, they've really got no more to give.

  10. Post update

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

Don't go anywhere by the way.

We will keep bringing you reaction from the early game before attention turns to Qatar v Senegal in the lunchtime kick-off.

  11. Post update

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

Football is a cruel game isn't it?

Wayne Hennessey has over 100 caps for his country and until today was a member of the 'he's never let us down' club as far as Wales fans were concerned.

Now he's just the third goalkeeper in the history of the World Cup to have received a red card.

    FT: Wales 0-2 Iran

    Nathan Blake

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

On the day we're unfortunate, if the red card doesn't happen the game probably ends 0-0, we've got a red card unfortunately for Wayne Hennessey, I feel sorry for him.

I think there is a time you just have to say credit to the opposition, you've just watched your players give everything they had and leave it all on the pitch. They are going to have to pick up and go again.
