Both full-backs are getting into good positions and pushing forward but they need good numbers in the box and those crosses need to be spot on. USA need a bit more quality in the final third. They have to capitalise on their chances.

We could see the game switching. Iran were really controlled at the beginning but the USA couldn't find anyone in the box. But then they got the goal and they were more aggressive in the box and it's a totally different game.

Iran were really good against Wales because they were more confident. They have to have a completely different approach in the second half compared to the first half. They have quality to do a lot better but at the moment we have seen the USA create chances and be good on the ball and it is a good result for them.

The USA deserve to be ahead and Iran offered barely anything in that first half.

The main concern now will be whether Christian Pulisic can carry on. He went straight to the medical staff as he walked down the tunnel and they were in deep conversation. He wasn't limping as much though.

Iran failed to have a single shot in the opening half, becoming the fourth side to not do so at the 2022 World Cup (following Costa Rica against Spain, Saudi Arabia against Argentina and Ghana against Portugal).

Needless to say, they will need to show a bit more in order to reach the last 16.

As things stand, it's the Netherlands v USA on Saturday in the first last-16 tie.

Iran haven't troubled USA at all, they haven't been able to.

I've been disappointed with the Iran front two. At times when they have had the ball, they've lost it too easily.

Injured left-back Milad Mohammadi is replaced by midfielder Ali Karimi. Captain Ehsan Hajisafi drops to left-back.

Mohammadi signalled to the bench and it looks like his race is run. Sometimes when you get one of those injuries, you know something has happened and you won't be able to carry on.
