    Poland 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Piotr Zielinski's strike is the difference at the break but that only tells half the story.

Poland also have Wojciech Szczesny to thank for half-time advatnage after that brilliant double save, including the penalty from Salem Al Dawsari.

The final ball or effort has been lacking so far from Saudi.

'One of the greatest double saves at a World Cup'published at 13:51 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2022

Poland's goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny stops a penalty by Saudi Arabia's midfielder #10 Salem Al-Dawsari during the Qatar 2022 World Cup Group C football match between Poland and Saudi Arabia at the Education City Stadium in Al-Rayyan, west of Doha on November 26, 2022Image source, Getty Images

Marc Quinn: Surely one of the greatest double saves ever seen at a World Cup.

Sho: Second save from Szczesny was incredible.

If that happened on the half-way line it would be a foul so by that reckoning it is a penalty.

Five minutes of stoppage time to go in the first period.

Jude yng Nghymru: If that's a penalty, well. Justice is delivered.

Ewan Gillies: Definitely a penalty and the dying swan looks brilliant in slow motion. 10 out of 10.

Simon Latson: That’s the most pathetic penalty decision I’ve seen for a long long time.

What a save that is from the rebound by Szczesny. That is utterly brilliant - a world-class save.

There is 10 minutes added on, by the way.

We had a brief delay after the penalty while they checked if Wojciech Szczesny was on his line, but he's judged to be fine.

It is SO close! His back stud on his left boot might just be on the line.

  10. 'The weirdest angle they could find'published at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2022

    Poland 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

That is disgraceful. There are seven or eight angles that show there was no touch - but one of them makes it look worse than it is.

That's soft. That's mega-soft. He's dragged his left foot back to try to get contact. The referee's looked at it from the weirdest angle they could find. It's as if the VAR tried to give it.

Saudi Arabia have deserved a break for the way they've played, though.

  11. PENALTY SAVEDpublished at 45+1 mins

    Poland 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    Drama!

It's not the best penalty from Salem Al Dawsari and Wojciech Szczesny is able to get down low to his right and keep it out.

The follow-up is met by Mohammed Al Burayk but his effort is tipped over the bar brilliantly by Szczesny.

What a double save! Superb reactions.

    Poland are complaining.

The referee isn't going to change his mind but could it be putting doubt into Salem Al Dawsari's mind?

    It's given!

    I think that's fair enough.

Bielik does take Al Shehri's ankle from under him.

    Hello!

The referee is going to the monitor to check for a possible Saudi Arabia penalty.

Saleh Al Shehri is caught on the ankle by Krystian Bielik.

There is contact, but the fall is very theatrical.

  15. 'Zielinski's absolutely roofed it'published at 13:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2022

Is that Matty Cash's first overlap of the game so far? If you put the ball in at the near post, you know Robert Lewandowski is going to get there.

He couldn't quite finish it but Zielinski didn't need to be asked twice. He's absolutely roofed that in, on the volley. There was nothing the goalkeeper could do about that. It's heartbreak for Saudi Arabia.

It's come from nothing - slightly rope-a-dope, you might call it. It would appear that Saudi Arabia needed to get past 40 minutes. They've come to life.

  16. goal

GOAL - Poland 1-0 Saudi Arabiapublished at 40 mins

    Piotr Zielinski

    Finish!

This comes all the way from a Poland goal kick.

Wojciech Szczesny finds Matty Cash, who volleys forward. The Aston Villa man carries on and is found.

He takes a couple of steps forward and crosses low into the box for Robert Lewandowski.

You think he is just going to dink it over the advancing keeper but ends up going wide. He composes himself though and slots back for Piotr Zielinski who drills into the roof of the net.

Against the run of play maybe, but a superbly-worked goal.

Poland have been put under a lot of pressure so far but they have at least stopped Saudi Arabia's forwards receiving the ball in central areas around the box.

We've got a delay as Ali Al Bulayhi receives some treatment on an elbow injury.

The stretcher has come on, but I don't think it is going to be needed.

It is just getting heavily strapped.

I am loving this Saudi Arabia crowd.

They are roaring every time their side lay a glove on Poland.

Another one goes up as Abdulelah Al Malki crashes into a tackle in the middle of his half.

Saudi are definitely targeting the wide areas.

They've given Matty Cash a bit of a break though and are going down the Poland left now.

A cross is worked into the box but Saleh Al Shehri can't connect with his attempted header.

For Saudi's dominance one shot on target will disappoint them.
