  1. 'We have so much resilience'published at 22:44 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

    Chelsea 1-1 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester goalscorer James Maddison says: "Chelsea had the dominance without hurting us too much, I can't remember too many clear-cut chances they had. Sometimes you have to give up possession but we were very solid in the block and we can be a danger at counter attacks.

"I just dropped deep [for the goal] into a lot of space, had it in my mind to get it on the right foot and pull the trigger and it was nice for it to go inside the post.

"I've been proud of my season. I started a bit slow for the first eight games, but that was my 51st or 52nd game, that's a lot of games but personally I've been happy. I'm in the team for my goals, my quality, I need to bring that and having been doing that of late.

"Hopefully we can finish strongly. I'm always proud of my team and we have so much resilience. We've got nothing to play for but it's about showing your professionalism to finish strongly and we're a team that gives it our all until the end for our supporters."

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport at Goodison Park

Oh my days. I've seen some wild games in my time, but the collection of results that Everton conjured up in the last stage of this season, and the way they have done it has been extraordinary.

The party will continue long into the night, and currently some fans are trying to have a game on the pitch, while others are climbing on the goal frame.

Order, however, is starting to be restored.

  4. 'We'll try and make fans proud'published at 22:41 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

    FT: Aston Villa 1-1 Burnley

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard, speaking to Sky Sports: "We are 14th in the league and we've just given a lap of honour and our fans were incredible. Moving forward, this club cannot finish 14th again. We need to change things and come back better and stronger next season.

"Their keeper is probably man of match for them but we need to be better. We need to have more quality and answers.

"The first part of the job was to stay safe but we wanted to finish in top half. Moving forward we need to improve in a lot of departments. We need to recruit well.

"We will try and give it our best shot and make our supporters proud on the last day of the season. We have little time to prepare for the Manchester City game. We'll try and make it as difficult as we can for them. We will fight for everything we can."

Delighted for Super Frank, especially after his shoddy treatment by Chelsea. He's a genuine footballing guy with loads of talent and deserves all the plaudits tonight.

  6. 'Pope helped his team get a point'published at 22:37 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

    Aston Villa 1-1 Burnley

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard to BBC Sport: "Honours are even because of Nick Pope. He was outstanding. He’s helped his team get a point.

"We gave ourselves a big problem conceding the penalty. Outside of that we’ve done everything to win the game. We just lacked the quality in the final third.

"The issue for me is we need to solve a bigger problem. We’re creating chances but not scoing enough goals. I want to challenge my players to find better quality. We created enough opprtunities to score more. We can’t just say it was because the keeper played well. I’d like more quality in the final third.

"Our supporters deserve it [a good performnace against Manchester City on Sunday]. We’re 14th. The fans have been incredible, following us near and far. The least we can do is try to make them proud.

"We can’t control people asking us questions [about the title race]. We just have to focus on preparing in the best way we can. There are three points to play for."

I really enjoyed that. What a game.

High drama, that support – absolutely magnificent.

Fantastic performance, incredible scenes. I wish I was there to see it.

    Aston Villa 1-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Mike Jackson to BBC Sport: "It’s not mission accomplished. The least we wanted was a point. We’re a little disappointed not to get the three. Everything I’ve seen tonight is what this group does. They’ve had to dig in, they’ve had to work. We’ll need it again on Sunday.

"Nick Pope is getting better and better. I can’t say enough about him. He’s playing out of his skin. He’s been unbelievable for us, not just as a player but also as a person and a character around the place."

On Wout Weghorst’s late shot blocked by Tyrone Mings: “We know it’s a big chance. These things happen. Hopefully when one comes his way on Sunday he takes it.”

On Matty Cash’s foul throw-in in the build-up to Villa’s goal: “I’ve not really seen it. If that’s the case, what can you do? It’s just another thing that’s gone against us. There was a handball in there as well. You hope somewhere along the line they come back for you.

“On my way down today I was thinking who would be on penalties. I was thinking tell Ash he’s on the penalties. We’ve got one and he took. Credit to him, he worked his socks off.”

Could any of their injured players be back on Sunday? “Maybe a couple. It’s day by day with them. We’ll know more tomorrow. Matthew Lowton is overstretching [for his red card] but I don’t think it’s malice. It’s just emotion and adrenaline, he’s come on and he knows what’s at stake.”

"We can’t hide it’s in our hands. There’s still 90+ minutes of hard work and emotion and everything else to go through on Sunday. It’s about resting up and being ready."

    Aston Villa 1-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Mike Jackson to Sky Sports: "It’s a good point. This is a tough place to come. We knew we’d be under the hammer at times. It was an unbelievable performance with regards work-rate, grafting, discipline, desire. It wasn’t pretty but those are things you need at this stage of the season.

"Nick Pope was amazing. He’s done it regularly. We need him. He’s a top, top goalkeeper. He’s in England reckoning on pure merit. We’re lucky to have him.

"It was a good pen [by Ashley Barnes]. At half-time we spoke about what we needed to do, then we conceded too early. If we’d gone another 10 or 15 minutes we could have gone on to see it out. Terrific point for us.

"You always want that, we’re at home and it’s in our hands. There’s 90 minutes of work to achieve what we set out to do. We’ll rest up and make sure we’re ready Sunday.

"The players are used to going to these places where they have to dig. They’ve lived in these moments before. They’re comfortable with being uncomfortable. They showed that tonight. I didn’t think it was going to be a slick game."

Got to give Leicester a lot of praise because they defended so well. Having lots of bodies inside the box and managed everything coming into their box was headed out.

They defended their set pieces really well.

Owain Evans: That Lowton challenge is proof the game of football is now essentially a non contact sport, he wins the ball and makes minimal contact with Chambers with no foot raised - joke of a decision

Sean: Looks like stretching for a ball is now a red card offence. It’s not high, it’s one footed, he wins the ball.
