  1. 'In their own hands' - Burnley and Everton backed to survivepublished at 18:51 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

Burnley and Everton have destiny "in their own hands" - and that is the factor the Football Daily podcast pundits believe will ensure Leeds end up filling the final relegation place.

Pascal Struijk's 92nd-minute equaliser moved Leeds one point clear of the bottom three with one game to go, but both Burnley and Everton play on Thursday and have superior goal differences to Jesse Marsch's men.

"Leeds showed good character to get a point against Brighton," said former West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker. "But I just can't see them staying up.

"There are players there who are being linked with moves away from Elland Road and I just don't see the full solidarity there that I see at Burnley.

"Then there's Everton - their fans are making the difference."

Burnley are currently in 18th but a draw at Aston Villa on Thursday would leave them simply needing to match Leeds' result on the final day to secure survival.

"When you know your destiny is in your own hands, it's a huge thing," said ex-Southampton defender Francis Benali.

"There are so any possible scenarios and it's crucial when you've been down at the bottom for so long that you keep the belief you will get out.

"There have been positive signs at Burnley but they still need the points.

"For Everton, it's a one-match season against Crystal Palace on Thursday. They need to turn it on, the supporters will do their bit and it's down to the players to get the result they need."

Everton will go out "all guns blazing" against Crystal Palace tonight as they aim to secure Premier League survival, believes the Toffees' former midfielder Don Hutchison.

Frank Lampard's side can guarantee their top-flight status for next season with a win and, despite the manager's calls for "control", Hutchison reckons they will go for it from the outset.

"As soon as their bus comes down Goodison Park Road and they see the crowd, the players have to feed off that," he told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

"If they've got any minerals, they'll realise they're playing for the Everton faithful and the dressing room should be 100% focused on winning. It's huge."

Hutchison also highlighted the role of Richarlison in Everton's survival push with the Brazil forward netting five goals in their last eight games.

"The fans were looking for a talisman, someone to carry the fight," he said. "In the last month and a half, he's been the man."

  6. Also, at the Bridgepublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

Despite the little bit of teasing earlier, we must not forget that there is also a game taking place at Stamford Bridge. I'm sure you'll forgive us for focusing the greater share of our attention elsewhere, though.

While Chelsea sealing third spot in the table and Leicester looking to finish eighth is still of some importance, it's not quite up there with the relegation fight in the drama stakes.

  7. And on the final daypublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

After tonight, there's only one more game left for redemption. And none of the three have what you might consider an easy final match.

Everton are at an Arsenal side needing a win to keep their Champions League hopes alive, Burnley are at home to a buoyant Newcastle team looking to end the campaign in the top half of the table and Leeds are at an in-form Brentford basking in the knowledge they'll be playing in the top-flight next term.

You just know there are some twists and turns yet. How many will we get tonight?

  8. State of playpublished at 18:33 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

So yeah, as you can see from the table above, Watford and Norwich are already doomed to the drop.

Burnley are the side currently occupying the third relegation spot, but that will change if they bag at least a point at Villa Park.

Everton are in the strongest position, but anything but a win tonight leaves them sweating on final day.

Leeds' dire goal difference and extra game played currently makes them favourites for the Championship.

  9. Postpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

Oh, and Chelsea are playing Leicester.

  10. Three becomes two?published at 18:31 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

The three-horse race to decide who joins Norwich and Watford in the Championship next season is about to become at least a little clearer.

Tonight, two of those three nags involved - Burnley and Everton - play their game in hand. For Everton, a win ensures their safety. For Burnley, anything but defeat leaves their fate within their own control.

All Leeds can do is sit, watch and pray that Crystal Palace and Aston Villa can do them a favour.
