  1. Thank you and goodnightpublished at 21:00 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Boy, what a day!

Twists and turns, shock leads and comebacks, despair and delirium.

Never let it be said that the Premier League doesn't know how to stick the landing.

Congratulations to Manchester City and commiserations to Burnley.

Thank you so much for your company throughout this league season. It's been emotional.

And it doesn't end here. There is the Champions League final to come, some play-offs to resolve, Nations League shenanigans and then a Women's European Championships round the corner. It'll be next season before you know it.

Enjoy Match of the Day tonight. It'll be a belter.

  2. 'Liverpool pushed us so hard - you need to be excellent all the time'published at 20:58 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Manchester City are champions

    Manchester City

Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne speaking to Sky Sports: "You just go for it - you're losing anyway. You want to change the situation and that's what we did. They changed quickly with the second goal but we created more chances before that and before the second goal. It is what it is"

"I knew it was 1-1 at half-time [at Anfield] then after I'm not sure. Even then we looked at ourselves and we tried to change the situation, we didn't want to look at them and luckily we managed it."

Did they panic at all: "Maybe a couple of times - but it's normal in this situation. It's so different, you can't really explain it. But we tried to stay as calm as possible but sometimes it was a little bit panicked."

At what point they started to believe: "At 2-1 - it just changed the whole situation for me. The stadium, the atmosphere, the players change. We never looked back from there."

How his cross for the final goal ranks: "The best! It's not the best pass but Ilkay [Gundogan] is there and I just wanted to put it in a place that we can score. [Oleksandr] Zinchenko and Ilkay changed the game today and that's why they were brought on.

"He's [Gundogan] got really good timing in front of goal, we've seen it in the past and he won us the game today.

"It's hard because Liverpool push you that far and you need to be excellent all the time. You can never just say 'oh we'll play a bit less and we might lose some points', but losing points means the end. We feel so proud because they push us that far for so many years and we still manage to find a way."

  3. 'These boys played an insane season'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Wolves

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp tells BBC Sport: "I know Manchester City won 3-2 but I have no idea about any other result. Congratulations to Manchester City, Pep Guardiola and all the supporters, we made it a tough race but you fought hard, we fought hard but this game was not the pinnacle of our skill set. The start was not cool, it gave us a knock. We had to dig in deep but in the end second place, for us really good but in the end disappointment.

"These boys played an insane season. The opposition scored an early goal and we had to go against them, it mirrors our season. If you win only the games in which you are flying it is goodbye after 30 games,. The season is over, one point behind again, what others say I couldn't care less. I am very proud of this group, this club and how we came out of the pandemic with the atmosphere we created, absolutely outstanding. This is not the end, just a result of the season."

On Thiago injury: "He doesn't look good, he was limping. I have no idea if it will be enough [to recover for the Champions League final]. The rest should be all right."

On winning the Premier League in front of a full Anfield: "It is all about that, the only thing we can do in this league is constantly develop. We did that and we have to carry on developing. We will be a more difficult team to play against. We know we play in a league with Manchester City which is crazy difficult but it will not stop us from trying."

  4. 'What a win'published at 20:48 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Manchester City are champions

    Manchester City

Manchester City's Raheem Sterling speaking to Sky Sports: "This just shows the talent and determination in the group, to go year in, year out and challenge for the title, it's an unbelievable achievement.

"At 1-0 I thought we could do it, so when that second goal went in it was a real disappointing one. But the players we have here and the time on the board, it's still possible. What a win.

"That's how the universe works - Ilkay Gundogan hasn't featured as much as he would have liked but he got his opportunity to make his mark and I just said [to him] 'that's how the universe works'.

"Each year we come in and we know how difficult it will be with the teams we have. Liverpool are a great opponent and every year they push us to the wire and this is why we achieve stuff like this.

"It's another great one to add to the tally, it's the fourth Premier League I've won here, an unbelievable achievement."

  6. 'We've had a fantastic season'published at 20:40 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves manager Bruno Lage, speaking to BBC Sport: "When we saw the schedule and saw that our last game was against Liverpool, we thought it might be an exciting final – and it was.

"My players did a fantastic job and played with personality. I’m proud of them. We dropped from eighth to 10th, not because of this game but because of the last few games in the season.

"We had big opportunities to score more goals but we missed them. For us, there’s frustration because of that but I’m proud of the players because we’ve had a fantastic season.

"It’s about Liverpool and Manchester City. What they did during the season is so amazing. It was so exciting. They’re fantastic teams and they deserve everything they have this season.

"I feel a bit disappointed about the last six games, but I’m very excited about the season. We started the season with 14 players. January was a hard month for us. We’ve solved all the problems and we’ve put pressure on fifth, sixth, seventh place until the end. I’m happy and proud.

"My mind now is to try to prepare the next season in a better way, because it’s going to be harder than this one."

  7. 'A remarkable season'published at 20:36 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Brentford 1-2 Leeds

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank speaking to Match of the Day: "It's been a fantastic season. We need to evaluate the game and the season. The season has been remarkable, I don't think people understand how big of an achievement it is, It was a bad game between two teams who were a bit nervy today. Great goal and then we make two mistakes with two men off.

"We had 10 against 11 and then we equalise and then a red so I just want to praise the players for hanging in there. We had opportunities - very well done to the boys.

"There have been remarkable moments this season - the opening night against Arsenal, the 3-3 here against Liverpool, the 4-1 win at Chelsea and a lot of other nice wins so, fantastic season.

"It's tough in the Premier League - I am very proud of the club and the team so I'm looking forward to some holiday."

On Christian Eriksen: "I hope he signs for us - there's a good chance that he will but there's also a chance he'll sign for another club. We have a good relationship, known each other for many years. If that is enough for him to sign then great but I'm sure there are other factors too.

"It's fine margins between seventh and 20th in this league, I respect massively in this league that things can change. I don't believe in second season syndrome but it could happen I suppose. We want to aim as high as possible and keep building."

  8. Norwich's worst home seasonpublished at 20:30 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Norwich 0-5 Spurs

In contrast to Spurs' ultimately stellar campaign, today's opponents Norwich have endured a miserable time back in the Premier League.

They won just 12 points from their 19 home league games this season, their lowest points tally on home soil in a single Football League season (when converting to three points for a win).

  9. Spurs' fourth best seasonpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Norwich 0-5 Spurs

What a season it ended up being for Tottenham.

Thanks in large part to Antonio Conte, they ended the Premier League season with 71 points. They have only had three better campaigns (86 in 2016-17, 77 in 2017-18 and 72 in 2012-13).

They were only three points behind third-placed Chelsea in the end.

  10. 'I'm incredibly proud'published at 20:23 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Brighton 3-1 West Ham

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter: “I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved. They are an amazing group of players to work with, with brilliant support from everyone behind the scenes.

"It hasn’t been plain sailing this season. There have been ups and downs but we have stuck at it and finished really strongly.

“We wanted to finish well but I didn’t feel we played to the level we can in the first half so we made some adjustments, got on top and scored some good goals. It was a fantastic second-half by us. It summed up our spirit and character.

“It was great to finish with two good home wins. It will make our supporters happy and they can look forward to a happy summer.

“We can be proud of what we can but then there’s the challenge of improving. We’ll enjoy a holiday and then look to do better next season."

  11. 'There are lots of positives to take'published at 20:20 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Brighton 3-1 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham centre-back Craig Dawson: "It’s obviously a disappointing end and a disappointing result. The first half, we were the better team, but the second half, they made a few changes and came out on top.

“They changed their shape and made a few substitutions. Fair play to them, Brighton were better than us in the second half.

“Of course, it’s been a good year, but you always want that little bit more. There’s a little bit of disappointment, but throughout the season, it’s been a good year, so there are a lot of positives to take."

On the final game of Mark Noble's career who was given a presentation on the Amex pitch before the game: "He’s a top guy off the pitch and you saw what he brings on the pitch, so he’s a big miss, but fair play to Brighton to do what they did for him today."

  13. 'The players are bouncing back again'published at 20:15 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Wolves

    Liverpool

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, on Sky Sports, on Divock Origi: "He’s had moments, huge moments in his Liverpool career. He’s been involved in things, special things in the club and he played his part."

On the Champions League final: "The players are bouncing back again, they have to get over the Premier League and look forward to the Champions League final now.

"They’ve had a brilliant season. You want to win one of the big ones. I think this team is too good to just win the domestic cups. If you win one of the big ones, you’ve had a good season."

On Mohamed Salah: "That man's vital for the success Liverpool had in the past and certainly going into the future."

  14. 'We played our part in the Premier League today'published at 20:13 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe: "It was very important for me that we finished in the way we have been playing for the majority of the second half of the season. We set very high standards and have a very good collective mentality. This was always going to be a very difficult match, not a technically pure match but we scored some good goals.

"We wanted to go into the game making sure the integrity of the league was upheld. It was important we played our part today.

On two-goal hero Callum Wilson: "I'm delighted for him personally. His performances in the last two games have been top class and what a professional he is. We needed him today. He led the line very well."

On Joelinton who was stretchered off: "I haven't seen it but I've been told he has a deep cut -you could see the bone. He's in good spirits in the changing room though and seems OK."

On transfer plans: "We have an unbelievable spirit and mentality about the group and I definitely don’t want to break that. That's my biggest challenge - to harness and keep all the good aspects of the second half of the season as well as evolving and improving with new additions."

  15. 'I was nearly crying when I had it in my hand'published at 20:10 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Manchester City are champions

    Manchester City

Manchester City's Jack Grealish speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on his feelings: "Unbelievable, the best feeling. I’ve had a few in my life in football but this is certainly right up there. I’ve come here [to City] to win trophies and to do it is unbelievable."

After being 2-0 down: "Truthfully I didn’t think we were going to win, I just didn’t. Sometimes you have those bad feelings in your head and I just didn’t think we were going to do it."

If the result shows a strong sense of character in the team: "I think it’s massive. When I came to this team you look at it from the outside, there are so many talented players, but there’s so much togetherness, quality and experience.

"The team has got everything and I think we’ve been quite unfortunate to only win one trophy but we’ve always got next year. Growing up I always wanted to play in the Premier League and when I did the next thing was to get my hands on the trophy. I was nearly crying when I had it in my hand."

  16. 'We have to be really proud'published at 20:08 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Wolves

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, speaking to Sky Sports: "We couldn’t be too aware of things that were happening in their game. We were really focused on our match. We heard the fans shouting and celebrating a few times, so we knew something had happened. We were really focused on doing our job.

"We got the win and the points, but it wasn’t enough. We’re frustrated because we worked really hard to get the title, but we have to be really proud. Congratulations to Manchester City.

"With 92 points you’d be champions in pretty much all the leagues in the world, but here you aren’t. Sometimes you have to do more. We’re not going to be negative and look at games where we dropped points. Every game in the Premier League is a fight, the standard is so high.

"Today we’ll forget that we’re in the Champions League final because it’s frustrating, but from tomorrow we’ll start to think about the final and go on.

"I’m happy with the Golden Glove. It’s an achievement from the whole team – it’s not just me."

  17. 'City were relentless'published at 20:03 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Man City 3-2 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: "We were really good for 70 minutes, the players carried the plan out exactly as we wanted. We caused them a lot of problems but went into protection mode, stopped playing and City were relentless.

"They have been together for long time, spent a lot of money to put one of the best teams in the world together. I said to my players that you can never switch off, and they really turned it around in the last 20 minutes."

  18. 'Being at City has been way harder than I thought'published at 20:00 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Manchester City are champions

    Manchester City

Manchester City's Jack Grealish speaking to Sky Sports: "It's unbelievable. After the third goal went in, I ran on the pitch because we were all celebrating and after that I just went straight down the tunnel, I was crying my eyes out. When you're a kid all you want to do is play in the Premier League and once you do that the next thing is winning it. I can't put this into words, honestly.

"We know how good of a side Aston Villa were, they showed it today but we know with our quality we can beat anyone. We did that in the last 20 minutes or so, I can't put it into words.

"It means everything - when I signed here people were saying to me 'what do you actually want - to win the Champions League or the Premier League?' and for me it was always the Premier League. I've never won it before and I'm so happy.

"[Being at City has been] harder than I thought. It was more difficult than I thought. I've enjoyed every minute, I've stepped out of my comfort zone to come here - new changing room, new surroundings, new team-mates, it's been difficult. Way harder than I thought. But this today just makes up for all of it.

"I know that I can kick on and I certainly will - I feel like I've played my part in games, the goal last week at West Ham which obviously meant a lot. I can kick on so much more, I know in myself how much of a role I have to play in this football club and I will.

"All these guys have made me feel so welcome. My first day here was the worst ever! Going into a new changing room, something I've never done before, but the lads here are unbelievable and I love them all so much."

  20. 'It's a relief'published at 19:55 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    FT: Brentford 1-2 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds goalscorer Jack Harrison speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I'm relieved more than anything. We've put in so much work and faced adversity so to come out on top today, it's all paid off. It's just a relief more than anything.

"In those moments you just think as fast as you can, it's a quick moment and I just did my best and thankfully it went in.

"I like to think of myself as diverse and can play in different positions. I spend extra time off the pitch to study what the manager likes and wants on the pitch so I always try to do what he's asking. It's great to be learning different systems and positions so hopefully I can just improve on that next season.

"The fans have been incredible - it's not always been the best of times but they've stuck with us, they follow us everywhere, it's amazing the support they bring."

On potential outgoing players: "I don't know what will happen but they are great players and if we can keep them it would be great.

"I'm happy to be scoring goals in the top flight but it's been a rough season for myself, ups and downs, I'm working hard at being better."
