    Ferran Torres (penalty)

With a skip and a jump, Ferran Torres calmly sends Keylor Navas the wrong way from the spot and Spain are 3-0 up and cruising.

You may be quite happy if you've picked out Spain in the sweepstake. They've been sensational so far.

Spain will be using the defeats Argentina and Germany have suffered already in the tournament as motivation. Just put this game to bed early doors.

  3. PENALTY to Spainpublished at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2022

    Spain 2-0 Costa Rica

Oscar Duarte kicks the heel of Jordi Alba, who goes down. Penalty. Ex-Manchester City man Ferran Torres to take it.

  4. Costa Rica chasing shadowspublished at 29 mins

    Spain 2-0 Costa Rica

    Chris Bevan
BBC Sport at Al Thumama Stadium, Qatar

I don't think Costa Rica got the memo that this is a World Cup of shocks.

They seem completely unable to deal with the pace and precision of Spain's passing when they come forward, and they are chasing shadows right now.

The atmosphere hasn't got any better by the way, despite the best efforts of a lone Spain fan and their very loud trumpet.

    Spain 2-0 Costa Rica

It's like a training keep-ball session for Spain. Costa Rica chasing after it, but not getting much of it. Jordi Alba with a couple of nutmegs as the party tricks are coming out already. It's going to be a long afternoon for Costa Rica.

I've got a feeling that Costa Rica are going to need all the help they can get - even if it's from us up here in the commentary box.

    Spain 2-0 Costa Rica

    Rob Green
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Wonderful finish and a wonderful goal. Spain have just bided their time, waited to bounce. One fast ball to the outside, one fast ball into the box and a one-touch finish. Spain are in complete control of this in the early, early fashions of this game.

  11. goal

GOAL - Spain 2-0 Costa Ricapublished at 21 mins

    Marco Asensio

Spain in complete control. The ball is played wide left to Jordi Alba, he swings in a low cross and Marco Asensio, showing great composure, is free in the box 15 yards out and is able to sweep it past Keylor Navas.

Spain running riot. There's not going to be a shock result in this one. Spain will fancy their chances of more goals.

Behind the goal to our left-hand side there is a pocket of Costa Rica fans who have very been lively before the kick off but are now very subdued.

Spain will need a second goal. We've seen what happens to when 'big' teams like Argentina and Germany go ahead against supposedly weaker opposition and don't kill them off!

    Spain 1-0 Costa Rica

    Chris Bevan
BBC Sport at Al Thumama Stadium, Qatar

There are a lot of Spain fans here - as was evident when they scored - but we are still lacking a bit of atmosphere to be honest.

The pocket of Costa Rica fans are trying to make themselves heard but their voices are lost in this vast stadium, as are their team right now.

Sunderland's Jewison Bennette, the 18-year-old, makes a storming run down the left flank before he is bundled over close to the touchline by the tracking back Marco Asensio.

The free-kick comes to nothing though as Celso Borges has moved too early and is flagged offside. Waste.

  20. 'Spain have looked good'published at 14 mins

    Spain 1-0 Costa Rica

    Rob Green
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

From the kick off, it's been coming. It was a matter of time. They're not getting tight Costa Rica, they don't know who to pick up.

The movement is there, the runners into space and in behind and Dani Olmo times this to perfection. His inclination to run make the space and run in behind, Cool finish and Spain have looked good.
