  1. 'I needed a beer'

    I met a very sad Mexico fan on the Metro on my way to the ground. They went out of the competition in dramatic style last night, at the expense of Poland.

    He was wearing a sign around his neck saying "my team is out, don’t talk to me. In airplane mode."

    He did have a chat with me though. He said he cried after the game. "No beer. I got home and I needed a beer!"

    I asked to take a photo of his sign after we discussed the game - "we came so close, I can't believe it" he added.

    I got my camera out and he said "oh, wait, I have a better sign. To wish everyone Merry Christmas!"

    He is at this match now with his friend from Belgium. We bumped into them again on our way to the media centre and he waved at us. At least he's cheered up.

  2. Milestone for Courtois

    A landmark day for former Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois.

    The 30-year-old, who made his Belgium debut in 2011, will be hoping it does not end in tears.

    He becomes the first keeper to reach this milestone for the men’s national side and seventh player overall after Jan Vertonghen, Axel Witsel, Toby Alderweireld, Eden Hazard, Dries Mertens and Romelu Lukaku.

    Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic has named the same starting XI that comfortably beat Canada in their last group match.

    Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, Tottenham winger Ivan Perisic and former Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren are among those involved.

    Croatia XI: Livakovic, Perisic, Lovren, Kovacic, Kramaric, Modric, Brozovic, Livaja, Sosa, Gvardiol, Juranovic.

    Roberto Martinez has made four changes to the Belgium side from their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Morocco.

    Everton's Amadou Onana, who is suspended, brothers Eden Hazard and Thorgan Hazard and Michy Batshuayi drop out of the side.

    In comes Dries Mertens, Leandro Trossard, Yannick Carrasco and Leander Dendoncker.

    Canada make four changes to the side that lost 4-1 against Croatia in the last game.

    The big news is that skipper Atiba Hutchinson and star striker Jonathan David have been dropped to the bench. Ritchie Laryea and Stephen Eustaquio also miss out.

    In come Reading's Junior Hoilett, Jonathan Osorio, Mark-Anthony Kaye and Sam Adekugbe.

    Canada XI: Borjan, Johnston, Vitoria, Miller, Adekugbe, Kaye, Hoilett, Davies, Osorio, Larin.

    Morocco make two changes to the team that shocked world number two Belgium in the previous game.

    Goalkeeper Yassine 'Bono' Bounou, who was named in the starting line-up but then taken ill during the anthems, returns in goal in place of Munir Mohamedi.

    Former Huddersfield town winger Abdelhamid Sabiri gets his reward for scoring scoring in the that, coming in for Selim Amallah.

    Ex-Wolves defender Romain Saiss captain's the side, with former Southampton player Sofiane Boufal and Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech also in.
