Before then, Wales play Iran (10:00), Qatar face Senegal (13:00) and Netherlands take on Ecuador (16:00).

I'll leave you with the highlights from tonight's match...

  2. 'They are in good shape to go for the trophy'published at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2022

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

    Gilberto Silva
Former Brazil defender on BBC One

These younger players are growing up fast as they are playing in the bigger leagues. Deciding games for Real Madrid, Arsenal and other big clubs. When they come to Brazil they just work.

A good victory like this shows the team are in a good shape to go for the trophy and this is important. The second-half showed that if Brazil avoid making mistakes at the back then the goal will come as it did today.

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

At 38 years and 63 days, captain Thiago Silva became the oldest player to play for Brazil in a World Cup match.

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

    Micah Richards

They showed us glimpses in the first half - they were getting in good positions but they didn't have that composure.

But in the second half it opened up and it was a brilliant watch.

  7. 'Brazil came out in the second half'published at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2022

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

    Gilberto Silva
Former Brazil defender on BBC One

It was fantastic - after a very difficult first half where Serbia closed every chance and made things very hard, Brazil came out in the second half, played football and created chances.

As Micah Richards kept saying, it was always going to come!

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

Brazil are now unbeaten in their opening game in each of the last 20 editions of the World Cup (W17 D3), since losing 3-1 against Spain in 1934.

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

    Gilberto Silva
Former Brazil defender on BBC One

It [Richarlison's second] was the goal of the tournament so far and he deserves it. He has been doing a great job for Brazil.

  10. 'Richarlison showed why he's their number nine'published at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2022

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC One

We were thinking, are they going to put on a show for us? And they teased us and teased us and then the second half came.

Richarlison is marmite at times but today he really showed why he is Brazil's number nine.

You've got the likes of Jesus on the bench, Firmino is at home, he's not even here - and Richarlison has shown today why he's number nine, he was brilliant.

  11. Richarlison 'on fire' for Brazilpublished at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2022

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

Nine goals in his last seven performances for Brazil.

His goals were very different. The first was a poacher's goal which gave me as much satisfaction as seeing the incredible volley, with the touch and everything else, for his second.

He's a man in form in that yellow shirt - yet to score in the Premier League for Spurs this season but for Brazil he's on fire.

The positioning of Richarlison to pick up those scrappy little goals, the ones where the goalkeeper is going to tap them out in and around the six-yard box - that gives me as much satisfaction as the incredible second goal that he scored.

He's in the right position, he gets his shot away - watch his movement, he's first to react, as all good strikers are, it's what you have to do. It looks very simple but it's not. You've got to get in there and then you've got to finish it. It's very, very good centre-forward play.

The second goal - the touch with the left foot, then to swivel and then hit it with the right foot, look at the agility.

  13. 'A display of real authority'published at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2022

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a work of art from Richarlison - stunning!

It was overall a display of real authority Alisson didn't have anything to do really, they look strong at the back and have those flair players going forward.

Richarlison was the difference this evening.

    FT: Brazil 2-0 Serbia

Before the game he scowled, during the first hour he scowled, when he scored twice he scowled and now it's over he's... guess what? Yep, scowling.

Richarlison is a stern-faced man. He's some player too, though.

Just look at this for a finish...

Tite obviously had an impact whatever he said to his team at half-time because Brazil have been a whole lot better this second half.

  16. FULL-TIMEpublished at 90+7 mins

    Brazil 2-0 Serbia

It took them a while but the Brazil we all hoped for showed up to win this in the second half. Richarlison is the hero with the two goals.

Serbia defended stubbornly for just over an hour, but had nothing once falling behind.

The favourites start with a win.

Rodrygo has looked really sharp since coming on. He gets in down the left but his low cross is cut out.

  18. 'Not enough going forward'published at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2022

    Brazil 2-0 Serbia

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Before a ball was kicked everyone's favourites were Brazil but with Switzerland winning today Serbia have a lot of work to do. Not good enough going forward.

Marc Quinn: Man of the match has to be Casemiro. His range of passing and ability to break up play is genuinely masterful. He's like Roy Keane in his pomp.

Danilo is not in a good way. He is hobbling badly. Brazil will be hoping it is just cramp. They've used five subs so they can't replace him.
