Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan is the most popular man in the media centre, lots of people going up to him for selfies.

Forlan played 112 times for his country, scoring 36 goals, and was the Golden Boot winner in 2010.

Uruguay are looking to avoid failing to score in the groups for the first time in their history. Remember they are two-time winners of the competition at home in 1930 and lifting the trophy again in 1950.

Park Ji-Sung scores as South Korea beat Portugal in 2002

The only previous meeting between South Korea and Portugal was at the 2002 World Cup. The co-hosts won 1-0 through a goal by Park Ji-sung after a Portugal team including South Korea head coach Paulo Bento had Joao Pinto and Beto sent off.

"It was my last match as an international player so that's the memory I have," recalls Bento.

"Being proud regardless of a specific match, as I was able to represent my country in a World Cup regardless of specific results."

  3. 'Uruguay to take second'published at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2022

    Ghana v Uruguay (15:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton's predictions

The big issue for everyone in this group is that the runner-up goes through, but probably faces Brazil next.

My hunch is that Uruguay will get second spot.

They gave everything in their defeat by Portugal and that desperation might bring them more joy here, although Ghana do carry a goal threat.

    Prediction: 1-2

There's little sense that this is a revenge mission as Ghana's players sing their way to the dressing room. They look relaxed and ready for action.

South Korea's Portuguese coach Paulo Bento will sing both national anthems before his side bid to recreate their result of the 2002 World Cup and beat his home nation Portugal.

The former Benfica and Sporting Lisbon midfielder will serve a touchline ban against his homeland after being shown a red card by Premier League referee Anthony Taylor following the 3-2 defeat to Ghana.

"I do have feelings, of course, in relation to the Korean national anthem but I think I will sing the Portuguese national anthem as well," said Bento.

No goal and just a single point so far for Uruguay, but it's all or nothing for them today.

"We understand how important this match is and what is at stake and what's on the cards," said Uruguay boss Diego Alonso.

"We're still alive with a chance to go through if we believe in ourselves and it's a great opportunity that we want to seize."

Portugal will become the first team to win all three group games at this World Cup if they defeat South Korea. They are looking to win all three group stage matches for just a third time, also doing so in 1966 and 2006. Brazil will also make it three wins out of three if they overcome Cameroon later at 19:00 GMT.

Yesterday, Morocco reached the World Cup knockout stage for the first time since 1986 as they topped Group F.

It means two African teams are already through to the last 16, with Senegal set to face England next, four years after no African nations progressed from the group stage in Russia.

Ghana and Cameroon could yet join them today, with Cameroon facing Brazil in their final Group G match later.

How do you feel about the Luis Suarez handball 12 years on?

Thumbs up if you think Suarez did what any player would do for their nation in that situation.

Thumbs down if you think it was as good as cheating, as Micah Richards believes.

Defeat today will be the end of an era for the Uruguayan national team - five of their players over the age of 35 are likely to retire.

It looks like being the end of the road for goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, defenders Diego Godin and Martin Caceres and strikers Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez.

So what about the future? Uruguayans are very worried.

"There is little coming through from the system," says one journalist.

"We have Darwin Nunez but he doesn't have the mindset or character of a Suarez or Cavani.

"He has had a stop-start time at Liverpool so we are all relying on Jurgen Klopp to turn him into a strong player for us."

Of course, on Thursday, Uruguay decided to put Luis Suarez in front of the media.

Inevitably asked about the fallout from the 2010 meeting, and told by a Ghanaian journalist that some in the African country view him as "the devil himself", Suarez chose not to apologise for the incident.

"I don't apologise for it," he said.

"I apologise if I injure a player but I took a red card for the handball. It wasn't my fault because I didn't miss the penalty."

South Korea make three changes from the side that lost to Ghana as they look for a win that gives them hope of getting to the last 16.

Kwon Kyung-won comes into the centre of defence for Kim Min-jae, who suffered a calf injury in Monday's 3-2 defeat to the African side.

In attack, Lee Jae-sung and Lee Kang-in come in for Kwon Chan-hoon and Jeong Woo-yeong, joining Cho Gue-sung and Tottenham star Son Heung-min, who is yet to score in this tournament.

Portugal only need a point to top the group and make five changes from the side that beat Uruguay to clinch their place in the last 16.
