  2. How Uruguay broke Ghana heartspublished at 14:13 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2022

    Ghana v Uruguay (15:00 GMT)

Let's go back to July 2010, the last and only previous time that Ghana and Uruguay have met at a World Cup.

Then, the two nations met in a quarter-final tie in Johannesburg full of drama and controversy.

    Ringing any bells?

Ghana were denied a place in the semi-finals after Luis Suarez deliberately handled on the goalline and Asamoah Gyan missed the subsequent penalty.

Uruguay went on to win 4-2 on penalties after the match had ended 1-1.

Here's a reminder of how it went down...

There are going to be a lot of disappointed people here if Portugal rest Cristiano Ronaldo after he missed training this week - he is rated only 50-50 to play by boss Fernando Santos.

Madhav (above) has even brought along his own drawing of his idol. That might turn out to be the only glimpse we get of him today.

Well, it has been very spicy around the media centre before the game.

Ghana journalists have spoken about gaining "revenge" after Luis Suarez's infamous handball 12 years ago.

Uruguayan journalists are saying the same word. One said: "They want to beat us after what happened last time.

"Some of their fans saw me outside the stadium wearing this light blue shirt and shouted, 'Hey! You won't be punching the ball this time. We'll be punching you.'"

    Bubbling up nicely.

It's 5pm in Qatar and revenge is filling the air. Ghana and Uruguay are about to meet for the first time since one of the most controversial moments in World Cup history.

Back in 2010, a deliberate handball on the goalline by Luis Suarez denied the Black Stars a goal which would have sent them into the semi-finals.

4,536 days later and the two nations meet for the first time since those events in South Africa, with Ghana chasing a result that will send Uruguay packing.
