A complete striker is someone who can create an assist as well as score - someone who can change the game within one action.

I am going to tell you how I became that type of player myself, but I don't think there are many of them at this World Cup.

Some teams even prefer to play without a striker at all, but in the big moments I always think you need someone to finish the actions, as well as start them.

England have Harry Kane, who I love to I watch, but France's Kylian Mbappe is the player who stands out as the being the best at doing all of those things I have mentioned, all together.

If you put Mbappe in a centre-forward's position, he will score goals but still come back and try and make chances for other people - you can see he was doing that a lot in France's first two games in Qatar.

Poland were so bad and boring in their last game against Argentina. They showed no ambition or intent.

I see this only going one way. Argentina could have scored six against Poland.

Poland will probably be playing for penalties. Will this be Robert Lewandowski's last dance?They may as well go out with a bang. Go for it, toe-to-toe. That's what we'd like to see, but it's not going to happen.

France have reached the World Cup last 16 five times before - 1986, 1998, 2006, 2014, 2018 - and gone through each time.

Only Germany (8/8) and Croatia (2/2) have reached it more than once and never lost in it.

It will be difficult for Poland, they haven't shown anything that suggests they will get a result. They are very conservative. You have to give Robert Lewandowski the chance to have some opportunities at goal, he needs more support.

Hopefully they can do that but I'm not sure.

Most of the France fans are still outside, but there were already enough of them in here to give their team a noisy welcome when they emerged for their warm-up.

France boss Didier Deschamps: "Today, even a great nation, if she is not ready, can have unpleasant situations.

"All the games are difficult, all the teams are good and prepared. The players all play in good leagues.

"This team has had to defend in the first three games, defend a lot and they defend very well. They love it.

"They have a hardcore of players with good experience. You have to respect what this team does, they deserve to be there."

There is optimism for France which is a good thing. On paper we are the better team. However, usually when it's too easy, that's where we mess up. The French national team easily take things for granted.

So the message from Didier Deschamps before this game was that this a great opportunity to get to the quarter-finals.

Respect Poland, Lewandowski and Szczesny and there are a lot of players in the two teams that know each other well and play together or play against each other but if France are serious they should go through.

In short there's a lot of options.

Poland only scored twice in the group stages, with Piotr Zielinski and Robert Lewandowski netting in the 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia.

That was the first World Cup goal of national legend Lewandowski's career.

Poland only had five shots on target in those three games - with three for Lewandowski.

Based on what I've seen of them so far, if Poland get in the France half, they will be lucky. They just don't seem able to get the ball up the pitch to Robert Lewandowski, who is so isolated.

The Poles are big and slow and I think they were lucky to get out of Group C.

France can chuck in a poor performance every so often and I know this has been a World Cup of shocks so I am asking to get egg on my face... but I only see this going one way.

The winners of this game face England or Senegal in the quarter-finals on Saturday night.

England's last-16 tie is at 19:00 GMT tonight.

France are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with Poland.

The last time Poland beat France was 4-0 a friendly in August 1982.

Funnily that game was only weeks after their only World Cup meeting to date - when Poland beat France 3-2 in the third-place play-off.

The Poland fans here are vastly outnumbered by their French counterparts, but they are not exactly hard to spot.

I've seen many weird and wonderful hats at this World Cup but this French effort, crowned with a stuffed Gallic Rooster, tops the lot.

Remarkably this is the first time since 2006 that the world champions have reached the knockout stages in their World Cup defence.

Italy (in 2010), Spain (in 2014) and Germany (in 2018) have gone out in the group stages.

France won their first two group games and then rested most of the players, losing 1-0 to Tunisia last time out.

This is Poland's first time in a World Cup knockout game since 1986.

On that occasion they lost 4-0 to Brazil in the last 16, having finished third in 1982.

Poland squeezed through the group stages this year, despite losing 2-0 to Argentina, finishing above Mexico on goal difference on a dramatic final round of games.
