Japan 1-0 Croatia
Japan have never led at half-time in a World Cup knockout game before. Croatia have never lost a last-16 tie before.

They are exploiting Croatia at the moment with all the crosses Japan have been putting in. I wonder what the Japanese coach is going to say to his players at half-time here. Go out and get more corner kicks and put more balls into Dejan Lovren as he is not looking very secure today but he has not been supported very well.

Former England defender on BBC One
I said that experience of the Croatia team and that being a positive for them but they look a bit leggy. They look like they're a team that are ageing. Japan are looking as dangerous as ever.

Rahul: A Japan win will NOT be an upset in my books. Croatia look like they only have one plan and we all know the Blue Samurai grow into the game.
Jack: Japan are the most surprising team in this World Cup.
Osagie: Finally, an underdog look like going through, was beginning to fear they would all crash out at this stage.

Japan have been the much better team, they've moved the ball a lot quicker, they've got into better positions in the box. They've created chances, they've been alert and they have basically stopped Croatia playing.
We know that those three midfielders want to get on the ball and they haven't allowed that. Japan have played at their tempo rather than at Croatia's tempo which has been a real good sign for them.

Here is one of Japan's few chances before the goal.

I am really looking forward to the second 45 minutes and how Japan are going to react to being 1-0 up. They haven't been 1-0 up yet in this tournament and how Croatia are going to deal with this.
Clearly Croatia have to change and be a bit a more positive, they must attack Japan a little bit, that promises an open game and we know what Japan are like with an open game.

Former England midfielder on BBC One
Japan have been brilliant. Maeda getting the love from his players for the hard work he has put in to that first half and he got his goal as the reward.
Croatia need to go in and have a look at themselves and somehow lift their energy levels to get themselves back into it.
It's been a very enjoyable first 45 minutes.

A well worked corner but a cross is over the head of Dejan Lovren.

Croatia win a corner right at the end of this half.

I would say on balance it is well deserved, it is not like any of the teams have played particularly well. It has been very cautious from both sides. This could now open things up a bit.
Japan 1-0 Croatia
It was a Maya Yoshida assist for the goal, the ball hit him last before falling to Daizen Maeda.
The offside check had been against Shogo Taniguchi in the build-up but he was just onside.
Japan 1-0 Croatia
Most of Japan's attacking joy has come down the right so far.
And now after going over 30 minutes without an effort on goal, they score with their first effort on target.

Japan have been much the better side. Really enjoyed watching them for 45 minutes. They thoroughly deserve the lead so far.

It's a really well worked corner and the ball in by Doan is absolutely sensational. Maeda just keeps it alive, it drops into that six yard box and he is waiting. He sticks it into the back of the net. Right place, right time.
Japan 1-0 Croatia
There is a little VAR check for offside and the goal stands.
