We have been calling for them to do exactly that, get the ball in there and let them fight for it. Lovren puts in a very good cross.

What a great goal and it came out of absolutely nothing.

If someone said Ivan Perisic and Dejan Lovren linked up for a cross and headed goal, I think we'd have expected the other way round really.

    Ivan Perisic

Ivan Perisic scores his 10th major tournament gola and Croatia are level out of nowhere.

Josip Juranovic pulls the ball back to Dejan Lovren, who whips in a cross from deep. Perisic gets free to head the ball into the bottom corner. Wonderful header.

    Japan 1-0 Croatia

    Peter Schmeichel
Former Manchester United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Japan have more pace than Croatia in every position all over the pitch and Croatia need to find an answer. Get the ball up to the two big strikers and let them fight for it in the box and then get support from midfield. We have seen glimpses of that but they aren't fully committed.

Ritsu Doan takes the corner and Shogo Taniguchi tries to flick it on but Croatia clear. No real urgency to their attempted counter.

    Japan 1-0 Croatia

    Peter Schmeichel

They are two big fellas Petkovic and Kramaric and they need to be more dominating when the ball gets put into the box. They haven't got a lot of pace so that is something that they have to do, they have to win those headers.

Daizen Maeda is the second Celtic player to score for Japan at the World Cup, after Shunsuke Nakamura in 2006.

Celtic players have only scored more World Cup goals for Sweden (three by Henrik Larsson) than for Japan. Surprisingly it's only two for Scotland too.

Sid: Really impressed with the way Japan has played football in this World Cup, might be the best underdog team in the history to trouble the favourites for this World Cup rooting them to progress in the tournament, they just keep getting better.

Wayne: Japan have been a breath of fresh air in this tournament, hope they make it through.

RedSamurai: High energy and disciplined, forcing Croatia to play to Japan’s cadence, best I’ve seen Japan play over the years.
