In Casablanca’s oldest cafe, Moroccan supporters were getting increasingly frustrated at their team’s struggles to score.

When this cafe was first opened in 1922, Morocco was still under French control. Tonight, people here were praying their team could defeat their former colonial ruler.

One supporter is here on holiday. He grew up in France but was born in Morocco and says he wanted the African country to win. "It’s time for Africa to lift the World Cup," he says.

You feel for Morocco, they are the story of this World Cup for me. They just came up a little bit short tonight, depleted with injuries. Players cobbled together to try and perform this evening.

They can be proud of their World Cup displays, beating Belgium, Spain, Portugal, huge scalps, shocking the world really.

France are a strange team, they didn't play with great flair but they got the job done. Once again, the World Cup final. Could be back to back champions.

I've seen a great Moroccan team, who gave everything to win.

They weren't really focussing on the final pass to score a goal and they got punished by a France team, who scored goals when it really mattered.

Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat, 26, really caught the eye for Morocco in this World Cup.

Terry: We are proud of you Morocco. The result did not do justice, you are a winner for the Arab, African continent and to your country. You are a hero to your people.

Liamap: Gutted for Morocco. Tremendous game. Thank goodness we have the Third Place Playoff so we get to see them one more time. Normally don't care about that game but it's two teams that will want to win it. Should be a good one.

Ashley: Well done France on the verge of emulating the great Brazil side of 1958 and 62. But shout out to Morocco for a historic run knocking out some big teams. A World Cup campaign we will never forget.

Here was that late Moroccan chance that could have made things interesting.

The final is a four-way shootout for the Golden Boot.

Argentina's Lionel Messi and France's Kylian Mbappe have scored five each - and Messi leads Mbappe 3-2 on assists which is the tiebreak.

France's Olivier Giroud and Argentina's Julian Alvarez are on four goals each - and no assists. So they need to score twice really to have a chance.

That could change if somebody scores four goals in the third-place play-off but let's not worry about that for now.
