Chris: France make it four World Cup Finals in the last eight tournaments. An unbelievable achievement that cements them as the greatest football nation.

We often think of Brazil, Germany and Italy who have all won more Cups, but it is France that have dominated since the 90s. A new football world order.

Antoine Griezmann has surprised me but he has the intelligent and quality to do it.

He looks more like Kante than Griezmann!

  3. 'Argentina will be licking their lips'published at 21:33 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2022

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

As good as France are, I think Lionel Messi and Argentina will be sat there licking their lips a little bit.

They will be thinking there are areas they can get at France, particularly down the left-hand area of their defence.

When France were run at they did panic a little bit and with Julian Alvarez and Messi dancing and wiggling around, it is going to be a great game.

The Morocco players will go back as heroes. The roar from the fans signifies what they will be receiving when they go back and rightly so.

France don't even have to play well to win. They go through periods were you think they are rocking.

They have the experience and the know-how. They are rugged at times and they have explosive power at the other end who can score goals and define games.

Kylian Mbappe is a man who can turn a game on its head. He produces moments where you can see why he is up on a pedestal at the top of the world.

The defensive work that Antoine Griezmann had to, and did do, in the second half: The number of times he got in the way, the number of times he blocked it, clearing the ball in his own box.

I thought he was man of the match, he was really good.

In Casablanca’s oldest cafe, Moroccan supporters were getting increasingly frustrated at their team’s struggles to score.

When this cafe was first opened in 1922, Morocco was still under French control. Tonight, people here were praying their team could defeat their former colonial ruler.

One supporter is here on holiday. He grew up in France but was born in Morocco and says he wanted the African country to win. "It’s time for Africa to lift the World Cup," he says.

    FT: France 2-0 Morocco

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

You feel for Morocco, they are the story of this World Cup for me. They just came up a little bit short tonight, depleted with injuries. Players cobbled together to try and perform this evening.

They can be proud of their World Cup displays, beating Belgium, Spain, Portugal, huge scalps, shocking the world really.

France are a strange team, they didn't play with great flair but they got the job done. Once again, the World Cup final. Could be back to back champions.

"We are proud," defeated but delighted, Khalid urges the crowd to stay calm, as he waves red smoke.

A box of fireworks is ignited, sending blasts in all directions.

Horns blare and cyclists try to navigate through the smoky paths.

There are fewer people here, one Moroccan tells me: "It’s too cold (it’s minus 2 degrees) so many of us just stay home to watch."

I've seen a great Moroccan team, who gave everything to win.

They weren't really focussing on the final pass to score a goal and they got punished by a France team, who scored goals when it really mattered.

Terry: We are proud of you Morocco. The result did not do justice, you are a winner for the Arab, African continent and to your country. You are a hero to your people.

Liamap: Gutted for Morocco. Tremendous game. Thank goodness we have the Third Place Playoff so we get to see them one more time. Normally don't care about that game but it's two teams that will want to win it. Should be a good one.

Ashley: Well done France on the verge of emulating the great Brazil side of 1958 and 62. But shout out to Morocco for a historic run knocking out some big teams. A World Cup campaign we will never forget.

  18. Postpublished at 21:14 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2022

The final is a four-way shootout for the Golden Boot.

Argentina's Lionel Messi and France's Kylian Mbappe have scored five each - and Messi leads Mbappe 3-2 on assists which is the tiebreak.

France's Olivier Giroud and Argentina's Julian Alvarez are on four goals each - and no assists. So they need to score twice really to have a chance.

That could change if somebody scores four goals in the third-place play-off but let's not worry about that for now.

This Moroccan side have been incredible. This can only be the beginning for a very talented squad and a very talented coach with amazing fans.

The French will be very happy to show a tribute to them and show what an amazing team they are. Today, there was definitely not two goals in between those two teams.
