    The Reds are smelling blood.

They fashion another chance for Diogo Jota, but he is on the stretch for his finish and can only pit to Ederson.

What a turnaround from the first-half. City need to get a grip.

    Oof. Joao Cancelo gets lucky!

Andy Robertson's ball to the back post hits the back of the City defender. It keeps the ball away from Mohamed Salah but he didn't know much about it.

What a start to the second half, I can't believe that! Man City fell asleep there.

The pass into Mane is inch-perfect and the finish under pressure from Kyle Walker is top corner. What a way to celebrate his birthday!

Liverpool have come out swinging haymakers.

Andy Robertson is found on the left and his cross swings in front of a host of bodies in the box.

"Come on City!" screams one man in the crowd. They've been caught cold.

A dig through the stats is intriguing.

Social media comments point to Liverpool not doing enough with the ball. They've actually been quite accurate in completing 81% of passes (City 83%). In the opposition half Liverpool have been better than their hosts, completing 71%. In the final third City are better - 66% to 62%.

Where there is a noteworthy difference is in the stats on duels.

City have won 62.9% of duels to Liverpool's 37.1%. They've been even more dominant if we just look at aerial duels.

So, while there was a lot to unpick in that first half, it looks like City are earning the right here through dogged application - even if the super football maybe overshadows the hard graft.

Liverpool find themselves behind at half-time in a Premier League game for the first time this season. They last trailed at the break exactly a year ago today, coming back to beat Aston Villa.

An extraordinary football team being made to look ordinary.

I think Jurgen Klopp will go into the dressing room and he will try to rattle his players and tell them how important this is.

They are 2-1 down, if it stays like this they are losing the game. 'Go out there, play the game I know you can,' I think he'll say that. Then he'll say, 'the opportunities are there, they are in-behind City's defence. Put the ball into those areas.'

Man City are defending on the half-way line, Liverpool need to use that to their advantage. On the flip side, City are playing well and are in control.

Joe: Can someone please send out a search party for Mo Salah? Last seen walking on to the pitch at the Etihad.

Chris: If there was a goal to show why Southgate doesn't trust Alexander-Arnold, that was it. His defending frailties cost as many goals as his attacking prowess creates.

L: WHY did Liverpool have to put in their worst performance all season in such an important game? So disappointing. We are gifting the game and title to City.

What a superb half of football. Flown by.

Manchester City deserve their lead and they may feel it could be even more convincing.

Liverpool look uncharacteristically nervous but still carry such menace. All to play for.

Here you can see the slight momentum shift that took place after the frenetic opening.

The top image shows the possession break down and action areas from minute 1 to 15. It's even, with fractionally more play at the City end.

But in image two - minutes 16-30 - you see City grab more ball and push the away side back. Liverpool cracked on 36 minutes. Pressure - even small changes - pays.
