Naim: This Liverpool midfield has been quite poor. I don’t get how you have 3 in the middle yet KDB has so much time and space on the ball every single time.

Andrew: Raheem Sterling has a terrible record with offside VAR decisions in big games at the Etihad.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 70 mins

    Man City 2-2 Liverpool

Liverpool are the first to make a change.

Diogo Jota departs to be replaced by Luiz Diaz. Not a bad replacement to try and win a game in a final 20 minutes.

Virgil van Dijk - an absolute rock.

Raheem Sterling has a yard on him as he breaks away to gather Kevin de Bruyne's pass. The City forward attempts to beat the defender but doesn't have a prayer. Van Dijk, cool as you like, regains the ball and sets Liverpool away again.

It is very rare that you watch a game of this quality, with two sides possessing so much quality that every attack threatens to produce a goal.

This has some twists in it yet.

Yep, it looks like Raheem Sterling went too early to gather the ball before charging in to finish past Alisson. He is offside. Just. Confirmation incoming...

    Man City 2-2 Liverpool

Bernardo Silva's foray into the penalty area and Gabriel Jesus' blocked shot moments ago were City's first touches in the Liverpool box in this second half. It's taken 15 minutes but are they starting to get a grip again?

Prior to the Jesus chance, Thiago clattered Kevin de Bruyne. The referee doesn't forget, though, and books the Reds player.

Virgil van Dijk with a huge block!

Gabriel Jesus gathers on his chest at the back post, cuts past two challenges and fires a low shot that goes past Alisson but not the well-placed centre-back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold finds himself the furthest Liverpool man forward as the ball is fired over the top.

He tries to hold off Aymeric Laporte but just fails to do so. Important defensive work from the City player.

Guardiola wants his team to play wide. At the moment they are seeking the middle ground and that is too easy for Liverpool to stop Man City playing.

    Man City 2-2 Liverpool

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

Liverpool have, for now at least, turned the tables on Manchester City. They are doing to City what City were doing to them in the first half.

    This is a classic.

Boos from the home fans. They think Thiago should be booked for sliding in on Gabriel Jesus. It is a free-kick but the Liverpool midfielder doesn't think it should even be that. He's wrong.

Both managers have got options to change the way their team is playing. They can bring on different personnel doing different things to change things up; if a team gets very comfortable defending and you're not getting joy, it is incredible to have those players.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is finding his range now.

His lovely curled pass releases Diogo Jota but after the Portuguese lays off to Jordan Henderson he finds himself offside and unable to pursue the return pass.

Things really not going the home side's way now. They want a free-kick for handball near the Liverpool box but don't get it. They regather the ball but an offside flag ends any hope of an attack.

It is very clear that Liverpool have upped the tempo. They've scored a goal and created an opportunity; someone should have been on the end of that cross.

It is like Man City haven't begun the second half. There is no movement, no purpose.
