  1. Rest not an option for Rangerspublished at 22:35 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

Okay, that's all for tonight folks. Rangers are still very much in the hunt for a place in the Europa League final.

However, they can't rest up before next Thursday's second leg because they have a do-or-die derby to play at Celtic Park on Sunday.

Anything other than a win at the weekend and they can kiss goodbye to the title.

Join us again for all of the Scottish Premiership coverage, with five games on Saturday before the Old Firm go head-to-head for the last time this season.

    Cheers for now.

  2. 'We scored the most difficult chance' - Tedescopublished at 22:30 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

RB Leipzig head coach Domenico Tedesco on BT Sport: "It was a tough game. Normally Rangers are not that deep, they were compact and it was pretty hard to play against such an opponent.

"In the second half we had three or four good chances, and the most difficult one we score.

"It's a little bit of luck there, we know [Angelino] has a brilliant left foot. "He would shoot 10 times there and probably score twice.

"Now Rangers have to come - maybe not from the start - but they have to come out more and when there are more spaces we are better."

  3. 'Rangers can overcome 1-0 deficit' - Van Bronckhorstpublished at 22:28 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been giving his post-match thoughts to BT Sport.

"We were well organised," he said.

"We didn't give many chances away. With their quality you always know they will create some chances.

"I think especially the first half was more making sure they couldn't create goals. We weren't as confident on the ball as in the second half.

"It's always disappointing when you lose a goal so late in the game. But the players played really well and next week we're at home and Ibrox will give us the energy we need.

"Of course, next week we have to win. We need to attack them at the right moments with more bodies. But a 1-0 defeat, we can overcome that."

  4. No news on Roofe fitnesspublished at 22:26 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

Of course, Rangers are without top scorer Alfredo Morelos for the remainder of the season and manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has just said he doesn't know yet if Kemar Roofe (his second top scorer) will be fit for the second leg.

  5. 'Rangers need to sort out number nine spot'published at 22:23 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

    Mark Hateley
Former Rangers striker on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

I think what Rangers need to get sorted for the second leg is the number nine spot. Too much was breaking down and not enough ball was held in. There were not enough touches around the central striker.

  6. 'We'll be fully at it at Ibrox' - Tavernierpublished at 22:21 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

Rangers captain James Tavernier tells BT Sport: "We were solid throughout the game, we limited their chances.

"It's one great strike but we could've prevented that. We know 1-0 going to Ibrox we are well in the game. Away from home we wanted to take a good result back.

"We know we are more than capable of turning this in our favour. We limited them but back at home we can put in a good performance.

"We're going to be fully at it from the first whistle, we defended well but it's a set-piece that let us down."

  7. 'Shades of 2008'published at 22:18 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

Defensively, I thought Rangers were outstanding. They had shades of 2008 under Walter Smith when they had that great run to the final. Leipzig deserved to win, but Rangers made life difficult and frustrated the hell out of them.

  8. 'Second half, much better for Rangers'published at 22:15 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

    Mark Hateley
Former Rangers striker on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

The second-half was much better for Rangers but their decision making was a bit iffy. I said before the game you'd take a one-goal deficit. The fans will take it heading home and can look forward to next week.

  9. Postpublished at 22:13 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

Moving Joe Aribo into a central attacking role in the second half really helped get Rangers up the pitch.

Was it a mistake to swap things round with substitute Fashion Sakala on 69 minutes?

Sakala has pace to burn but couldn't really get going.

  10. 'We didn't get break of the ball' - Aribopublished at 22:08 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo tells BT Sport: "We just wanted to stay compact and make it hard from them to get through us.

"It's all about concentration and hard work, that's what we did out there.

"We could've got a goal, we had a few half chances but we didn't get the break of the ball."

  11. Leipzig have form on the roadpublished at 22:05 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

Rangers will know they can't go chasing the game next week, since RB Leipzig are a real threat on their travels.

Remember, they drew at home with Real Sociedad and Atalanta in previous knockout rounds before winning 3-1 in Spain and 2-0 in Italy.

  12. 'Late goal changes everything'published at 22:02 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

    Richard Foster
Former Rangers defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Both teams will be happy with that. But that goal changes everything. At Ibrox you could have set up the same way for 70 minutes and go for it in the last 20. Now Rangers are going to have to open up a bit more.

  15. 'Rangers gave Leipzig a fright'published at 21:56 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

    Scott Mullen
BBC Scotland at the Red Bull Arena

Leipzig's players go into a huge huddle in the centre circle. In the last round, we saw heavy celebrations from Braga after earning a 1-0 first-leg lead.

It's not quite that here. Make no mistake, Rangers gave Leipzig a fright here. This isn't done.

  16. Rangers need to come from behindpublished at 21:53 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangers

Rangers will be frustrated to concede so late in the game after working so hard to stifle the threat of the Bundesliga side.

But fans might have taken this result if it was on offer before kick-off.

The semi-final tie is very much alive and Rangers recovered from this scoreline in the last round.

  17. FULL-TIME RB Leipzig 1-0 Rangerspublished at 90+3 mins
