    Quote Message

I want one Rangers forward to stay in the centre circle, and allow two centre-backs to pick him up and leave lots of space out wide for the counter attack. At the moment, there is no counter attacking option.

  4. Hammers all square in other semi-finalpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

  5. 'Rangers comfortable defensively'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    HT: RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

As an attacking threat Rangers have been non-existent. But defensively they've been comfortable. Allan McGregor hasn't had anything to do. Leipzig need someone to go and beat a man to break up Rangers' shape.

    And they're halfway there.

It's been a resolute and largely reliable showing from the Scottish champions here. They've only had around 25% possession which tells it's own story of the direction of travel for the half, but surely the objective was get this tie back to Ibrox and get it won.

Up front, Scott Wright has looked a tad nervous while Ryan Kent has struggled to be played into the match, but at the back a series of stellar blocks have frustrated the rowdy German crowd. For all Leipzig's dominance, Allan McGregor has had nothing to do.

Manager Domenico Tedesco takes a gulp of water and with a stern faces marches down the tunnel. His team are going to have to up their game here if Rangers are to be denied a positive result.

  7. HALF-TIME RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangerspublished at 45 mins

So far, so good for Rangers.

The big-spending Bundesliga side have dominated possession but haven't troubled goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

It's been a bit of bore, in truth, and that that will suit the visitors just fine.

    RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

Leipzig continue to boss the ball but they're starting to get a bit sloppy with their final pass. It's all very scruffy right now.

  9. 'Resolute Rangers hold a good shape'published at 20:38 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

The shape they're holding is very good, making it very difficult for Leipzig to break down. The issue for me is, and maybe it's not an issue, is Rangers are not getting up the pitch in terms of balls up to the strikers and keeping it.

Konrad Laimer with another good burst down the right and Connor Goldson needs to look lively to block off Christopher Nkunku, who was trying to find room to meet the wing-back's driven cross.

  11. Postpublished at 33 mins

    RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

There's space for Rangers skipper James Tavernier to gallop into and he gets past one man in the home half before getting his pocket picked from behind.

  12. Postpublished at 31 mins

    RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

Rangers are suddenly exposed at the back as Calvin Bassey gets sucked out of position. James Tavernier gets a slight touch with his head on a lofted cross and that's enough to save the day, with a fierce follow-up shot blocked.

  13. Postpublished at 29 mins

    RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

Scott Wright works hard to win a corner for Rangers. Connor Goldson is up to attack the delivery but can't get enough on his header.

  14. Postpublished at 27 mins

    RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

A chance for Rangers to get men into the home penalty box as Ryan Kent is upended, but the free-kick from James Tavernier is a poor one and it's headed away by the first defender.

  15. 'No room for Rangers to play out'published at 20:28 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

    Scott Mullen
BBC Scotland at the Red Bull Arena

The pressing from the front three of Leipzig is causing Rangers all sorts of problems.

With Barisic and Tavernier pushed so far forward on the flanks, Bassey, Lundstram and Goldson are really struggling to play from the back. At the moment they just can't get out, but hey, it's still 0-0.

Rangers are sticking rigidly to their 'low block' or whatever you want to call packing everyone behind the ball and working your socks off to stop the opposition.

  18. Postpublished at 18 mins

    RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

Now it's Connor Goldson impressing in defence as he matches the surging run of Konrad Laimer then makes a well-timed, sliding challenge to snuff out the danger.

  19. Postpublished at 16 mins

    RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

Calvin Bassey to the rescue for Rangers!

Christopher Nkunku is guilty of a poor first touch in the penalty box and that gives the defender just enough time to lunge in and make a vital block.

  20. Postpublished at 14 mins

    RB Leipzig 0-0 Rangers

Rangers get themselves up the pitch but a couple of heavy touches from Scott Wright means the home side quickly regain possession and start to build.
