Rangers centre-half Leon Balogun knows all about German football, the Nigerian international being born in Berlin and having played for Hannover, Werder Bremen, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Darmstadt and Mainz.

Ibrox winger Ryan Kent spent the first half of 2017/18 on loan at Freiburg from Liverpool, making six Bundesliga appearances.

Meanwhile, Eintracht's Kristijan Jakic, the midfielder on loan from Dinamo Zagreb, and Rangers left-back Borna Barisic are fellow Croatian internationals, while Frankfurt striker Rafael Santos Borre and injured Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos are rivals for the striker role with Colombia.

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers (20:00)

Rangers lost their first two Europa League group games this season against Lyon and Sparta Prague without scoring.

They have become the first team in competition history to reach the final after doing so.

Meanwhile, Eintracht are unbeaten in the Europa League this season and could become only the third side to win the competition without losing a game after Chelsea in 2018-19 and Villarreal in 2020-21.

  5. Rangers a match for Germanspublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 18 May 2022

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers (20:00)

This is Rangers' 52nd Uefa match against German opposition - by far the largest number they have played against a single country.

They have won 18 and lost 18 of the previous 51, including their only other final against a German club, Bayern Munich beating them 1-0 after extra time in the 1967 European Cup Winners' Cup decider in Nuremberg.

As highlighted earlier, Eintracht lost to Kilmarnock in one of their most painful European nights. The Germans looked to have killed off any Killie hopes of progressing to round two of the Fairs Cup when they scored within two minutes at Rugby Park to make it 4-0.

But the 14,930 fans roared the hosts forward and Ronnie Hamilton netted twice, with Brian McIlroy, James McFadzean and John McInally also scoring to seal a sensational comeback.

However, they beat Aberdeen 2-1 on aggregate in the first round of their triumphant 1979-80 Uefa Cup campaign.

  8. Will 'lucky trousers' work for Glasner?published at 17:39 British Summer Time 18 May 2022

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers (20:00)

Eintracht captain Sebastian Rode says the secret to his side's Europa League progress is a head coach who "tries to let the team dream".

But the 47-year-old Oliver Glasner nevertheless hopes to wear the "lucky trousers".

"They had to be cleaned, they're still at the dry cleaners. I hope I get them back in time," said the Austrian. Explaining his style, he added: "I prefer to stay in the background - the players are the protagonists who have to implement my pipe dreams."

However, in his first season in charge of the club, Glasner can become the first Austrian coach to win a European trophy since Ernst Happel led Hamburg to the European Cup in 1983.

So, an estimated 100,000 Rangers fans are joined by 50,000 fans from Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville, with just over three hours until kick off.

The vast majority of those who have travelled do not have tickets for the game in the 42,700-capacity Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Only 9,500 tickets were originally sold to Rangers fans, although more are believed to have been made available in recent days.

Ticketless Rangers fans will be able to watch the match at the 57,000-capacity Estadio La Cartuja in the north of the city - where Celtic lost the 2003 Uefa Cup final to Porto.

Drivetime host John Beattie is in Seville and has been savouring the atmosphere as the anticipation reaches fever pitch.

He met a wee boy with his grandparents.

It’s Harrison's fifth birthday, he’s never missed a game and has had a season ticket since he was six months old.

His grandparents are Joanne and William and they say winning the cup would be the best birthday present for Harrison.

BBC Scotland correspondent Lorna Gordon reports from Seville: "Officials here in Seville say this small Spanish city has in effect been taken over by fans.

"Up to 100,000 of those fans are expected to be Rangers supporters.

"The great and the good from Rangers are urging fans to be ambassadors and do their absolute best for the club - and they are.

"We're seeing lots of good natured exchanges between rival fans and what is most evident of all is the intense pride these Rangers fans have for their team. When they take to the pitch this evening, those fans will be hoping the players will bring home a cup."

Considering club rivalries, it would be too much to ask that the whole of Scotland will be behind Rangers in Seville.

However, the Scottish FA has added its best wishes to the Ibrox club.
