Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said it was a "joy" to work with his players each week, but they needed "a bit more consistency in the first half of the season" to beat City to the title.
Had City not won, Liverpool would have been crowned champions after beating Wolves 3-1 at Anfield.
However, the German described their achievements this season as "insane" and said they had pushed "the best team in the world" to the final day.
"[Finishing second] is the story of my life," he said. "I'm still record-holder for not getting promoted in Germany with the highest points tally. You need to get more points than every other team, but we didn't do that.
"You can't do more than give your absolute best and that's what the boys did again. We chased the best team in the world to the wire. That's absolutely special. We'll build a team again and go again.
"These boys played an insane season. This is not the end, just a result of the season."
The band on the stage are ready for a singalong.

Pep Guardiola marched through a guard of honour wearing a Manchester City T-shirt before pumping his fists to the skies and turning to take the adulation of an ecstatic Etihad Stadium.
He was beaming broadly as he celebrated his fourth title in five seasons - but this barely told the tale of what Manchester City's manager, players and fans had put themselves through to reach their goal.
Less than an hour earlier, Guardiola had broken down in tears at the final whistle following one of the most incredible comebacks any club has ever pulled off to win the Premier League.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss was shedding tears of joy. For much of this nerve-shredding, spectacular afternoon it looked like they might be tears of despair.
It looks like a few thousand City fans have already gathered in front of the main stage on Deansgate.
The showreel is currently going through all of the side's 99 goals scored in the league this season.
Tickets please.
The open top busses are in place, just waiting on the players and staff to board now.

Two men have been charged over crowd disorder after fans invaded the pitch following Manchester City's Premier League title win.
Thousands of City fans poured on to the Etihad pitch after beating Aston Villa 3-2.
Greater Manchester Police said the force was also investigating the assault of Villa keeper Robin Olsen.
A man, 28, from Knowsley has been charged with throwing a pyrotechnic.
A 37-year-old man from Salford has been charged with going on to the pitch.
It's clear to see that football fans have forgotten how to behave.
Manchester City have launched an investigation after Aston Villa keeper Robin Olsen was assaulted during a pitch invasion after the final whistle at Etihad Stadium.
Villa boss Steven Gerrard said afterwards that Sweden keeper Olsen was "attacked".
In a statement,, external City said Olsen was assaulted and they had launched an immediate investigation.
"Manchester City would like to sincerely apologise to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who was assaulted after the final whistle at today's match when fans entered the pitch," said the statement.
"The club has launched an immediate investigation and once identified, the individual responsible will be issued with an indefinite stadium ban."
The Football Association is also investigating the pitch invasion.
Manchester City's Jack Grealish said it ended up being "the perfect way" to win his first Premier League title, after City recovered from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2.
The England international joined City from Villa in the summer for a record £100m.

You could see what it meant to Pep Guardiola at the full-time whistle.
Mobbed by his support staff, the Spaniard broke down into tears while taking it all in, before joining his players in the celebrations.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola said: "The last game is always special, a lot of emotion. Aston Villa gave everything but the first goal changed everything. We had to handle it.
"We are legends. When you win the Premier League in this country four times in five seasons it is because these guys are so, so special. We will be remembered.
"Winning at home in front of our people is the best. The moment we equalised we had the feeling we had the chance to score the third.
"The magnitude of the achievement is related to magnitude of our rival and I have never seen a team like Liverpool in my life. Congratulations to Liverpool - they have made us better and better each week.
"I don't have the energy or desire to think about next season now. We are champions again."

City fans are beginning to gather around Deansgate, with young musicians and bands from the city getting set up on the stage at the end of the parade route, where City's players will eventually gather.
While they get set up the speaker system has a fondness for playing Coldplay songs, supposedly one of Pep Guardiola's favourite bands.
So, what are Manchester City's plans for today then?
Apart from nursing a few sore heads, the team will hold an open-top bus parade in the city centre.
The squad will depart from Exchange Square at about 18:00 BST, travel on to St Mary’s Gate and then south on Deansgate, before finishing at the Beetham Tower with a live stage show.
They certainly didn't do it the easy way but Manchester City defended their Premier League trophy and claimed their fourth top-flight title in the last five years.
Pushed all the way by the relentless Liverpool, City had to come from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 and spark pandemonium at Etihad Stadium.
