England manager Sarina Wiegman hopes to use their upcoming friendlies to perfect their style of play and find a preferred starting XI for the Euros.

The Lionesses kick-off the tournament, which is being held in England, at Old Trafford against Austria on 6 July.

They have been training at St George's Park this month and play Belgium on Thursday in the first of three friendly matches, in preparation for the Euros.

"We still want to do some things in our style of play," said Wiegman.

  4. 'Houghton was always facing a battle'published at 07:53 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

Wiegman has made several big decisions since she took the helm in September - naming Leah Williamson as captain for the tournament and now leaving out Houghton from her Euros squad.

The Manchester City defender was always facing a battle to prove her fitness and with centre-backs Millie Bright, Jess Carter and Alex Greenwood impressing for both club and country this season, she had stiff competition.

Scott and White have plenty of tournament experience, while Williamson and Bright are among those who have brought leadership into the squad.

In Lauren Hemp and Beth Mead, England have forwards in impressive form, while Chloe Kelly's inclusion is an exciting wildcard.

The players left out of the squad - Staniforth, Zelem, Charles, Houghton and MacIver have played just 46 minutes in total under Wiegman so it is no real surprise to see them omitted from the final squad selection.

Steph Houghton has not been included in England's 23-player squad for the women's Euros.

Houghton, who captained England for eight years, has not played since January because of an Achilles injury.

The Manchester City defender has made 121 appearances for England including five major tournaments.

"It was a hard decision. She's just not ready to compete. It was just a matter of time and we don't have that time," said manager Sarina Wiegman.

  6. Clubs must give 'truly exceptional' reasons for Covid-related postponementspublished at 07:44 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

Premier League clubs must present "truly exceptional" reasons to have requests for Covid-related postponements granted next season.

Clubs must also have taken "all reasonable steps" to avoid submitting an application, the league said.

Last season was badly affected by postponements, leading to an imbalance in matches played across the division.

Some clubs were criticised for using loopholes regarding the number of players required to call matches off.

  8. Henderson out, Garner in at Man Utd?published at 07:34 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Dean Henderson is in talks with Nottingham Forest about a loan move from Manchester United.

However, midfielder Jimmy Garner, who excelled on loan at Forest last season, is set to remain at Old Trafford, at least for the first part of pre-season training.

Garner looks set to be included in Erik Ten Hag's squad to tour Thailand and Australia next month, after which a decision will be made over what happens during the new campaign.

Restrictions over the number of loan players a club can have - including only one from an individual club - may restrict options.

  10. Could Dean Henderson be in goal?published at 07:22 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

Nottingham Forest have opened talks with Manchester United over a potential loan deal for goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Henderson, 25, played just three games last season, making no appearances in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, first-choice keeper David de Gea played all 38 league matches.

Henderson is unlikely to fit into new manager Erik ten Hag's plans, which would harm his chances of being called up to the England World Cup squad.
