So the first game of the 2022-23 EFL season is in the books.

It's a perfect start for new Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, while Terriers counterpart Danny Schofield has a lot to think about after a defeat that maybe could have been worse.

We'll be back with you from 14:30 BST on Saturday for all the build up to the first of many bumper Saturdays in the EFL over the next 10 months.

Thanks very much for your company (or should that be Kompany?) tonight and enjoy the rest of your evening and weekend.

    Cheers!

If you enjoyed that - and I certainly did - well there's so much more to come on the first Saturday of the new EFL season.

Thirty-two games, across the Championship, League One and League Two, all kicking off at 15:00 BST - with a juicy Middlesbrough v West Brom match to round things off.

Club football is back and we'll be across all the goals and big moments, as ever.

One from one for new Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.

His new charges made him suffer in the second half after a really good first half showing.

The former Manchester City man has overhauled the Clarets' playing style over the summer but he'll know a bright start is just that, a start.

    They need to improve.

Danny Schofield showed faith with a few of the players who did it for them last season and some of them have let him down.

There were some players who looked like they were walking through the game. That was disappointing.

Some of the new players look like they could add something to the side, but some of them need to improve their performances or they'll be watching the game from the sideline.. Just like me.

Great start - the football in the first half was as good as anything I've seen watching Burnley.

We didn't know what to expect from the new players but it was just incredible.

The second half wasn't as good - still some lovely bits of play, but couldn't go on to get that second goal.

A game of two halves but ultimately Burnley get the win their first-half showing deserved.

Ian Maatsen's strike proved to be the difference between the two teams but the Clarets should have been out of sight by the half-time whistle after a bright first 45 minutes.

The Terriers improved after the break but they couldn't really trouble the away side's backline.

Vincent Kompany's first game as Burnley boss ends in a win.

    Everyone's decided that's it, they're off.

They've had a bit more to get excited about in the second half.

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

Huddersfield win a free-kick in a decent area for a foul on Jordan Rhodes.

    It's wasted.

Town's set piece delivery hasn't been on it all night.

  9. Postpublished at 90+1 mins

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

Ian Maatsen impressed on loan at Coventry last season and the Chelsea man has done just that again on his Burnley debut.

He hits a decent strike straight at Lee Nicholls in the home goal from 25 yards out or so.

His first-half goal looks likely to be the winner in this.

We're into five minutes of time added on.

Can Burnley hold out for the win?

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

Yeah, David Kasumu can't carry on.

He's off for Jordan Rhodes and Yuto Nakayama is on for Rarmani Edmonds-Green.

That's Town's full allocation of five subs used now.

  12. Postpublished at 87 mins

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

Looks like David Kasumu's debut for Huddersfield is going to be short and not too sweet.

He's down getting some treatment but doesn't look like he can carry on.

  13. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 85 mins

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

Scott Twine hits the post for the Clarets!

The set-piece specialist gets it almost just right but his free-kick clatters off the outside of the post.

Have to say it did make a very satisfying thud sound. The little things, eh?

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 84 mins

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

David Kasumu is in the book for the home side for a foul on Vitinho 20 yards out.

The home fans are outraged as they think he won the ball.

Replays seem to suggest he did.

  15. Postpublished at 83 mins

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

    Burnley knocking the door again.

A free-kick falls to Vitinho on the edge of the area and his well-hit shot is blocked before Ashley Barnes is denied a clean shot by Town striker Danny Ward, getting back to defend to good effect.

  16. Postpublished at 80 mins

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

Ian Maatsen opens up his box of tricks down the Burnley left.

In all honesty it doesn't actually come off but the ball ricochets back to him anyway and he cuts the ball back for Scott Twine.

The debutant shoots at goal and it looks like it could be heading in but a Town player gets a block on it.

  17. 'Burnley have looked well-drilled'published at 21:37 British Summer Time 29 July 2022

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

    Glen Little
Former Burnley winger on BBC Radio Lancashire

To come out first game with new manager, players and tactics and play like this will give Burnley confidence.

They've been on the same page, which is impressive.

You imagine there's been a lot of hard work on the training field - they've looked well-drilled.

  18. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

Goalscorer Ian Maatsen is told to shoot by the away fans as the ball bounces nicely for him 25 yards out.

He doesn't need telling twice and connects well with his shot but it's well wide.

  19. Postpublished at 76 mins

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

Ashley Barnes wins a corner for the away side with some more industrious play.

Josh Brownhill sends it over and the first ball is cleared but only as far as another Burnley player who sends a decent ball to to the back stick to defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

the on-loan Manchester City man gets up well but its straight at Lee Nicholls in the home goal.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 74 mins

    Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley

    Little bit of history here.

Dara Costelloe is off and Vitinho comes on to become the first ever Brazilian to play for Burnley.

He's their eighth debutant of the night.
