Chloe Kelly's celebration brought back memories of Brandi Chastain's after scoring the winning penalty of the 1999 Women’s World Cup final.

That gave the United States victory over China in front of a home crowd of 90,185 at the Rose Bowl and helped transform the women's game in the US.

Her iconic celebration has now been immortalised with a statue outside the stadium in Pasadena, near Los Angeles.

What will Kelly's goal, and England's success, now do for the women's game in England?

It was 7.51pm in the evening Wembley sunshine when the outstanding captain, Leah Williamson, lifted that precious piece of silverware above her head and it all actually felt, looked and sounded real.

England's magnificent Lionesses were Euro 2022 champions and had secured their place in history. England's women had won their first major trophy. An England senior football team had won its first major trophy in 56 years.

On a day when 87,192 packed Wembley, an all-time Uefa tournament record, coach Sarina Wiegman and her players made themselves legends.

England's women were centre stage. Winners. No-one can ever take this away from them.

It's a beautiful morning because England are European champions. It was an exhilarating game. When I came out of Wembley Stadium, the fans, the noise, the atmosphere - I just needed to take a moment.

I needed to lap it up and take it all in. It's going to take a long time for the players to realise what they have done.
