Watched the game yesterday with my 81 year old dad who introduced me to football as a 7 year old and spent many hours over many years taking me to training and games. He was at Wembley for the final in 1966 and when the game ended yesterday he turned to me and said 'I've waited 56 years for this'. My heart is full of pride today, these women have been truly resilient and they are finally getting the respect and attention that they've always deserved. Thank you for bringing it home.

Ella Toone sent Wembley into raptures with her opening goal in last night’s final, but her delicately chipped finish was nothing new. Ian Gregory, her former PE teacher at Fred Longworth High School in Tyldesley, near Wigan, told BBC Radio Manchester: "We’ve seen her do it for years back at the school, and when she came on we just knew something was going to happen.

"But that finish was just unbelievable, what a chip. She’s a great girl and we’re so, so proud."

Speaking to 5 Live’s Nicky Campbell, her mum Kelly says the whole family won a ballot for tickets on Wednesday last week.

“We’ve got four daughters,” she says, “so my husband and I taking the six of us up there, it was so inspiring for them to see what these women have achieved.”

Speaking about the atmosphere at the ground, Tallulah says “everyone got really excited, especially us”.

“There were these people at the back that had drums and trumpets they were playing Sweet Caroline… it was a really good match.”

You think of all the women that did it for the love and the enjoyment of it when no one was watching. They are the champions in my opinion.

To do that and pave that way and hand the baton on to myself and my era and to see it go on and grow. This is what we worked for, doing countless interviews during tournaments to try and get that attention.

To tell people that females love this game.

I have been watching and following The Lionesses for just over 3 years now and yesterday we watched the game with our friends. It was tense, it was nail biting, it was nerve shredding... and it was WONDERFUL!!! Our host served us with courgette cakes, salad and strawberries after watching our girls celebrate and receive the cup and medals. It brought back me and my mates dancing in the street in 1966.

Stephanie, a mum, has just been in touch with Nicky Campbell's phone-in on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"My daughter started playing football as soon as she could stand up. She was thrown off the boys' team at the age of 11 because she was a girl. We would turn up for matches and she would get laughed at. You could hear the parents saying 'you've got a girl on your team'.

"That's just a cruelness that kids should not be hearing. At that point, she got picked up by Aston Villa and has gone on to play for Villa, England Schools, England Under-19s, she went to college in the United States, and she has now just signed her first professional contract.

"The pride I feel to watch her have that dream from such an early age, and then have the belief and confidence to follow it through, it's beyond words."
