You'll probably remember that Arsenal got done over at Brentford in their first game of last season. It was a chastening defeat at a lively ground.

They do not look in the mood for a repeat here.

Palace have a colourful and noisy Selhurst Park home crowd behind them as they absorb early pressure from Arsenal.

Arsenal are nearly in again, this time through a bit of fortune.

Gabriel Martinelli cuts inside and his attempted pass out wide deflects towards Gabriel Jesus. Palace defender Joachim Anderson is first to it, though, to clear.

Mikel Arteta had his head in his hands when Gabriel Martinelli missed his chance earlier. He'll be far happier than Patrick Vieira, though.

Now he has. He has a dart at Ben White but the Gunners centre-back - filling in at right-back - stays with him and pokes out a boot to stop the Palace man causing any real bother.

The Gunners have come flying out of the traps and probably should be one up after that Martinelli chance. Vieira said yesterday the team were behind tactically after being split up during pre-season.

Palace can't get a foot on the ball.

It looks only a matter of time before Arsenal take the lead. Oleksandr Zinchenko is fed the ball on the edge of the box for a shot that Vicente Guaita saves.

Soon after Thomas Partey's effort from range is blocked.

Palace can't live with Arsenal when they come forward at the moment.

Bukayo Saka beats a few men and fires in a low cross that palace half scramble away. The Gunners come again but Gabriel Jesus can't quite find room to shoot.

Oh, wow! Big miss!

This is all made by Gabriel Jesus, who waltzes through the Palace defence and pokes a shot that is blocked straight to Gabriel Martinelli. He should score but pulls his shot across goal and wide.

Jesus, though... that's going to have Arsenal (and fantasy football managers) salivating.

Arsenal's first little period of pressure almost yields something as a quickly-taken free-kick finds Martin Odegaard but his cute pass into the box is cut out.

Palace have already tried a few of those big switch passes out wide. They clearly think they can get their wide forwards and full-backs in behind the Gunners.

Pep Guardiola's always loved players who can play in different positions. Mikel Arteta's doing the same thing. In terms of a manager building a squad, Arteta is very, very impressive.
