That's all for tonight from Vicarage Road.

The Rob Edwards era very much up and running at Watford.

Join us tomorrow from midday for Saturday's EFL action.

    Bye for now. Stay cool.

I thought the first half, Watford were in control for large parts, but the second half was pretty much one-way traffic.

The final third is still a problem for Burnley, but there were still some really good individual performances.

You just hope this isn't going to be the story of Burnley's season - dropping points when controlling the game.

    FT: Watford 1-0 Burnley

Burnley will be really frustrated having totally dominated the second period.

They fashioned several decent chances but found Dan Bachmann in fine form - and then the bar in the way of Josh Brownhill's late effort.

But it's Tom Cleverley's goal at the end of the first half that's sent them to a first defeat of the season.

    And that is that.

Watford survive and Rob Edwards has a second home victory of the season.

Goodness they needed to keep their heads in that second half under so much pressure.

The were even down a man in the final 10 minutes but clung on.

Luke McNally with one more effort but his right-foot effort draws the latest save from Dan Bachmann.

  6. 'He's unlucky there'published at 21:54 British Summer Time 12 August 2022

Josh Brownhill has done well, I don't think you can blame him.

He's unlucky there, it's not an easy chance.

Unfortunately there was no-one following in for the rebound, it would've been a tap-in.

  7. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 90+2 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

    How close can Burnley get?

Vitinho skips away down the right and delivers an excellent cross towards the near post.

Josh Brownhill is there to rise and steer a right-foot effort beyond the goalkeeper but off the bar!

    Is that Burnley's last chance?

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 90 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

A sweeping cross from the right and it's off a Watford defender towards the far post.

But there is Dan Bachmann again with a full-stretch save to keep it out.

Flag had gone up but still a top save.

    Five minutes added on.

  9. Postpublished at 87 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

Ian Maatsen has it on the left and he takes one touch and drives to the byeline.

Yaser Asprilla brings him down and is booked.

Free-kick almost finds a Burnley man at the back post but Watford scramble it away.

This is all hands to the pump for the hosts now.

  10. YELLOW CARD Josh Brownhillpublished at 84 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

Some rare possession here for Watford and Dan Gosling drives forward and draws the challenge from Josh Brownhill.

He's the first booking of the game.

    Can Watford see this out?

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 83 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

Josh Brownhill with the Burnley free-kick from 20 yards out and it's a curling effort towards the right-hand post.

Diving across comes Daniel Bachmann to keep it out.

  12. RED CARD Hassane Kamarapublished at 80 mins

A ball floated down the right isn't dealt with by Watford full-back Hassane Kamara.

He tries to flick the ball back to his goalkeeper, makes little contact and Vitinho is in on goal.

Kamara takes the nuclear option and hauls back Vitinho's shirt and it's an easy decision for the referee.

A totally different picture for Rob Edwards in this second half.

His side have only had 30% possession since the break.

He takes out Joao Pedro and Yader Asprilla is sent on for the final 10 mins.

  14. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

Another Burnley corner now after slick play down the right.

It's towards Jay Rodriguez but he can't get much contact on it.

Play stays alive and a ball back into the middle almost catches the goalkeeper out, the ball skidding out of his hands under pressure.

Thankfully for Dan Bachmann, it doesn't fall for a claret shirt.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 75 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

    Burnley continue to press.

They switch the play quickly from right to left and win back-to-back corners - but can't make anything of them.

Samuel Bastien is now withdrawn and Vitinho enters for the visitors.

Watford not quite hanging on but they simply can't get any relief from these defensive sets.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 71 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

Ian Maatsen this time finds a superb cross from the left behind the defence.

And no-one has picked up Josh Brownhill drifting in from the right.

He gets a good right boot to it on the volley but it's very well saved down low by Dan Bachmann, stretching to his right.

This is now the Burnley we've seen in the opening two fixtures - swallowing possession and making the opposition chase shadows.

But can they pick their way through this Watford defence in the final 20 minutes?

  18. 'Burnley happy with Sarr substitution'published at 21:26 British Summer Time 12 August 2022

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

    Glen Little
Former Burnley winger on BBC Radio Lancashire

Ismaila Sarr coming off - if you're Burnley you're happy.

Whether he has a strain or a knock I don't know, but you'd take that wouldn't you.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 63 mins

Ian Maatsen in space for Burnley on the left.

Good chance to send over a threatening delivery but it's a clipped effort that leaves Ashley Barnes with too much to to do and he heads harmlessly towards goal.

It's Barnes' last act of the night as he's replaced by Jay Rodriguez.

Manuel Benson also gives way for Nathan Tella.

Change for Watford as well as Ismaila Sarr is removed and Vakoun Bayo is on for his debut.

  20. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

A long throw now for Burnley on the right, launched into the area.

Watford don't deal with it and it's Josh Brownhill again, on his left foot, this time with a chance to shoot but it's well over the bar.

Burnley have certainly stepped things up and Watford have plenty to think about now.
