Just get the sense that Burnley are finding their feet in this game.

Josh Brownhill down the right jinks into half a yard to get his cross in.

It falls for Samuel Bastien on his left foot at the top of the area but under pressure he can only fire high and wide.

  2. CLOSE!published at 52 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

    First moment for Burnley tonight.

They work it from the right into the penalty area and Josh Brownhill is then played in on goal but it's a smart piece of goalkeeping from Daniel Bachmann to come out quickly and smother the danger.

  3. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Watford 1-0 Burnley

Looks like a lost cause for Watford down the right but Joao Pedro is after it, keeps it in play and wins a corner.

    Very well done.

Ismaila Sarr then wins a cheap free-kick in the same corner.

A deep cross and behind for another Watford corner.

Taken quickly, this time headed away.

Both sides make a change at the break.

Tom Cleverley has been forced off with that injury in scoring, so Dan Gosling is on.

Jack Cork replaces Dara Costelloe for Burnley.

Back under way at the Vicarage.

Vincent Kompany was bellowing orders in the first part of the half but resorted to Blofeld-style stroking of his chin as the first 45 went on.

He has some thinking to do at half-time to get his side back in the game.

Burnley have dominated possession in their opening two games but barely touched the ball in the second 20 minutes of this.

The lead for Watford - but Tom Cleverley receiving treatment after the goal.

Looks like he took a knock while scoring.

Watford grew into the game and certainly since drinks (chortle!) were much the better side.

Finally they found some quality in the final third and the lead at the break.

Watford worked it well down the right.

Charlie Taylor isn't happy with the linesman but we've got to get used to no VAR.

It's a really good finish, Tom Cleverley keeps his cool and slides it into the corner - keeper no chance.

    Watford take the lead!

A lovely move down the right, Ismaila Sarr plays in Ken Sema who gets to the byeline and pokes it towards the penalty spot with his left boot.

It's an inviting one for Tom Cleverley to run on to and slide home with a right boot.

Nice finish. He had to open his body up a fraction and it's cooly slotted into the bottom-right corner.

Burnley work the ball towards the Watford area and it bounces kindly here for Dara Costelloe.

He takes aim with his right boot but he's there too soon and heaves it over the bar towards the Burnley fans.

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

Tom Cleverley and Hassane Kamara work a corner on the left.

Taken quickly for Watford but not for the first time tonight, the cross is poor.

Mario Gasper gets another chance from the right but he's had too many Weetabix as well.

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

The game opening up just a fraction now.

Watford work it to Joao Pedro on the right again but this time there's no way past left-back Ian Maatsen.

Ismaila Sarr then skips to the byeline but his cross is overhit and drifts harmlessly behind.

  14. 'Both sides showing what they're about'published at 20:40 British Summer Time 12 August 2022

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

I think I've touched the ball just as much as the goalkeepers so far.

But both sides are showing what they're about - even though it's 0-0 and there's barely been a chance.

They're both showing they could be up there this season.

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

Burnley have barely had a kick since drinks but here comes Ian Maatsen cutting in from the left.

He drives towards the area but runs into trouble and the promising position comes to naught.

Joao Pedro with a touch out of his feet and a searching ball to Ismaila Sarr from left to right.

The Watford striker with half a sight of goal but blazes well over.

    First shot of the game.

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

Definitely some joy for Watford down the right so far.

Again they get to the byeline but again the options in the middle are limited.

The home side trying to step things up now.

But now Mario Gasper has it driving forward on the right, however his low ball into the middle is cleared.

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

Watford get it to the byeline and the ball is pulled back to the top of the area but the final pass isn't on and Burnley and shepherd the ball away from the area.

The first significant threatening piece of possession for Watford here.

They try to work it left again but Hassane Kamara is offside.

    ...and that will be drinks!

Ashley Barnes takes a clattering on halfway - a few challenges have gone in so far.

But a total waste of a free-kick drifts harmlessly out of play on the left.

Burnley continuing to press high up the park - I wonder how long that can last in this weather?

  20. 'Game has settled down'published at 20:23 British Summer Time 12 August 2022

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

    Glen Little
Former Burnley winger on BBC Radio Lancashire

I think Burnley have been the better team in possession - the first five minutes or so was fast and furious.

But the game has settled down a bit now and Watford are having some play.
