Initial clearance is skewed away inside the area but Watford clear their lines.

Lively start but nothing in the way of chances so far.

  2. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

Connor Roberts is caught on the right and Burnley get a useful set piece 25 yards out.

The first cross is dealt with but it will be corner to the visitors, the first of the night.

  3. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

Another late challenge, this time from Burnley's Josh Cullen but he also escapes with a reminder.

And then a terrible clearance from the Burnley goalkeeper presents the ball to Ismaila Sarr on the top of the area but he can't really get his shot away.

    Burnley, and Arijanet Muric, survive.

  4. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

First set-piece to Watford and it's swung in from the right by Tom Cleverley towards the far post but no-one can get on the end of it and Burnley clear.

    Watford 0-0 Burnley

Burnley with all the ball in the opening few minutes looking to play the ball around the back.

But a foul on halfway brings their hegemony to an end and the home side can try and play.

Quite high press from Burnley and they quickly win it back.

And then a late challenge from Hassane Kamara on Manuel Benson probably should earn a yellow card but only a talking to.

Far too early to say how Burnley are settling back to life in the Championship after six years away but it's been a absolutely fine so far results wise.

Vincent Kompany's reign as manager got off to the perfect start with an opening day victory at Huddersfield - but the control they had in the game would have pleased him even more.

But there was a lack of incisiveness in the 1-1 draw with Luton with only one shot on target from 71% possession.

    Can they address that tonight?

A third evening game on the spin here for Watford after the first two matches were both on Monday nights.

Rob Edwards got the ideal start with victory over Sheffield United on the first weekend of the season.

It could have been two from two had Ismaila Sarr scored a late penalty at West Brom, but his spectacular goal from 60 yards out earned a point at the Hawthorns.

Just the one switch for Burnley from the draw with Luton on Saturday.

Josh Benson comes into midfield replacing Jack Cork, who's on the bench.

Jay Rodriguez also back among the substitutes after his hamstring problem.

Burnley: Muric, Roberts, Harwood-Bellis, Taylor, Maatsen, Cullen, Bastien, Brownhill, Benson, Costelloe, Barnes

Subs: Peacock-Farrell, Egan-Riley, Vitinho, McNally, Tella, Rodriguez, Cork

Hamza Choudhury makes his Watford debut tonight after his loan move from Leicester.

Subs: Hamer, Ngakia, Manaj, Gosling, Asprilla, Bayo, Kabasele

Hello everyone - are we really playing football in this weather?

Continental conditions for tonight’s Championship fixture.

I’d say a huge bonus for both sides - and fans - to be playing now rather than tomorrow afternoon.
