    Rotheram 1-0 Reading

    Tim Dellor
    BBC Berkshire sport editor

Rotheram's big centre half Richard Wood headed that ball in slow motion! It just sailed across the face of goal and into the net. A terrible start from Reading.

    Andi Weimann (6 mins)

    Can anyone stop Andi Weimann!?!?

The Austrian really is in the form of his life at the moment as he scores his fourth goal in four games.

Tommy Conway beats the offside line, feeds through to Weimann who is all on his own and just has to tap the ball into the back of the net.

Just two minutes in and they've already taken the lead at Millwall, thanks to a set piece.

  9. Squad Goals' Championship game of the daypublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

    Sunderland v QPR (15:00 BST)

    Sanny Rudravajhala
    Presenter, Squad Goals

It’s surely too early to get carried away by Sunderland’s start isn’t it? There may be a few Mackems dreaming of a top flight return as they start today in third. I think after the last few years though, most fans will be taking it game by game.

There’s perhaps a Premier League manager looking on with envy right now as an Ellis Simms-shaped hole can be found in Everton’s front line.

A sticky situation for the Toffees has been a sweet sensation for Sunderland. Simms' double in their 3-2 win against Bristol City last weekend was made even better with Ross Stewart also getting in on the act. Their combination could be deadly today.

Mick Beal (yes, Mick not Michael!) has come into QPR and looks to have hit the ground running in West London.

I’m not reading too much into their penalty defeat to Charlton in the EFL Cup. The League is their bread and butter and they really showed their potential in racing to a 3-0 lead against Middlesbrough last week.

A worry, however, is defence. That game finished 3-2 and underlined a soft underbelly that Beal will need to sort if they’re to head back down the A1 with something to show for it.

  10. Coventry's pitch woes continuepublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

Millwall v Coventry City (15:00 BST)

Coventry's issues with their stadium's pitch are having all kinds of knock-on effects for the start of their season. They've already had their league match with Rotherham postponed last Saturday, a midweek cup tie relocated and now Tuesday's Championship fixture with Wigan has also been called off.

Today at least they have a match to play and travel down to Millwall hoping to put that, and a 4-1 beating by Bristol City in the EFL Cup, out of their minds.

Hosts Millwall have stuttered since winning 2-0 on the opening day of the season and will want to bounce-back from two defeats in their last two matches.

  11. Preston seeking first goalpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

Luton Town v Preston North End (15:00 BST)

Two teams both searching for their first league wins of the season, although Preston are the only team in the Championship still searching for their first goal of the campaign, too.

Ryan Lowe's side have drawn their opening two matches 0-0 and will hope their 4-1 EFL Cup midweek win at Huddersfield will fire them up as they travel to Kenilworth Road, a ground Luton have made something of a fortress in 2022.

The Hatters have lost just one of their past 14 games at home.

  12. A summertime six-pointer?published at 14:52 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

    Rotherham v Reading (15:00 BST)

Is it too early in the season to call this game a six-pointer? Yes, it absolutely is.

Nonetheless, both of these teams are expected to be down in the lower echelons of the second tier this season so any points picked up today might prove to be crucial in May.

Rotherham have only played once in the league after their game at Coventry last week was postponed because of the Sky Blues' pitch.

No such problems at the New York Stadium this afternoon.

  13. Seasiders and Swans look to turn tidepublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

    Blackpool v Swansea (15:00 BST)

Both of these sides are looking to show a bit of bouncebackability after tricky weeks.

Blackpool fell to a 2-0 loss at Stoke last Saturday before losing on penalties to League Two Barrow in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Swans suffered a chastening 3-0 home defeat by Blackburn before blowing a 2-0 lead to lose to Oxford on penalties in the EFL Cup in midweek.

  14. Bristol City need points on the boardpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

Wigan Athletic v Bristol City (15:00 BST)

Two matches and two draws is the type of consistency Wigan will like as they ease back into Championship life. Although the Lactics have brought in more firepower this week, with strikers Nathan Broadhead and Ashley Fletcher signed on loan from Everton and Watford.

They face a Bristol City side who have fallen to back-to-back defeats in the league - only Huddersfield have also failed to put any points on the board yet.

Up front the Robins have few problems, but defensively Nigel Pearson's side are still leaking goals, conceding five in two games - more than any other team.

  15. Can Tigers stop Canaries singing?published at 14:47 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

Hull City v Norwich City (15:00 BST)

It's not been a great start to life back in the second tier for Dean Smith's Norwich.

Despite retaining the majority of their squad from last season's foray into the Premier League, the Canaries have picked up just one point from their opening two games.

Today's opponents Hull have looked sharp in their two league outings but were beaten 2-1 by League Two Bradford City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

  16. Crisis, what crisis?published at 14:45 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

It's not been the ideal start to life in football management for new Huddersfield boss Danny Schofield.

The Terriers, who reached last season's Championship play-off final under Carlos Corberan, have lost all three of their games so far this campaign and were hammered 4-1 at home by Preston in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Schofield is justifiably keeping a cool head but he'll want to get that monkey off his back today with a victory over a Stoke side who have won one and lost one so far in the league.

  17. Squad Goals' League Two game of the daypublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

Leyton Orient v Mansfield Town (15:00 BST)

    Charles Commins
    BBC Squad Goals

I predicted Orient to be promoted as champions last season and have Mansfield down as a promotion favourite this time around, so this could be an early key game for both sides.

I love the way Richie Wellens sets his teams up to press high and with the home crowd behind them, I expect The O’s to continue their early season good form.

Orient have won both of their opening games in League Two - Grimsby 2-0 and Crawley 1-0. While they lost out to Forest Green Rovers in the EFL Cup in midweek, Wellens made eight changes and I’d expect him to revert back to full strength today.

I’m interested to see how Mansfield do this season after losing out in last year’s play-off final. Nigel Clough’s side have had an average start - they lost 2-0 to Salford before beating Tranmere 1-0. A narrow EFL Cup defeat to local neighbours, Derby County on Tuesday will give them cause for optimism but they’ll be without front man Jordan Bowery after he was sent off in the final moments.

This could be a really entertaining game between two good sides and two very different styles of football.

Here's the full list of League Two fixtures, with all matches kicking off at 15:00 BST.

    • AFC Wimbledon v Doncaster Rovers
    • Bradford City v Newport County

  18. Early actionpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

    FT: Cardiff 1-0 Birmingham

    Jaden PhilogeneImage source, Rex Features

Our first bits of EFL action for the day have just wrapped up.

Cardiff beat Birmingham City 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal from Aston Villa loanee Jaden Philogene.

Meanwhile, in League One Joey Barton's Bristol Rovers beat Oxford United thanks to a John Marquis goal.

The EFL weekend got under way on Friday night, with Watford beating fellow relegated Premier League side Burnley 1-0 at Vicarage Road.

All been very binary so far hasn't it?

  19. Squad Goals' League One game of the daypublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

Plymouth Argyle v Peterborough United (15:00 BST)

    Joe Thompson
Former Rochdale and Tranmere midfielder on Squad Goals

These two met in a dress rehearsal in the League Cup on Wednesday with Peterborough eventually win 2-0.

I’m expecting both these teams to be at the top end of the league come the final stages of the season, so even though it’s early days, this is a big clash in my eyes.

Argyle manager Steven Schumacher will be hoping for improvements after their home win against Barnsley on the opening day of the season has been followed by two defeats. He still has a few injury concerns noticeably Panutche Camara who was often a talisman in midfield last season.

Grant McCann’s Peterborough, meanwhile, have had a perfect 100% winning start back in their third tier. Johnson Clarke-Harris, in particular, has two goals already. Keep an eye on him today, for sure.

Here's the full list of League One fixtures, with all other matches kicking off at 15:00 BST.

    • Bristol Rovers v Oxford United (12:30 BST)
    • Accrington Stanley v Burton Albion
