Being top of the league shouldn't mean too much at this time of year - but it sure sounds like it does to the travelling Burnley fans.

When the Baggies choir suddenly burst into life with a very noisy rendition of 'We're the Albion', the Clarets masses had an almost instant response.

'We're top of the league', they sang.

If Albion don't score - and the hosts have done everything but score so far - that wili indeed be the case.

Time for a couple of Burnley changes.

Nathan Tella, who won the penalty, and Ian Maatsen are replaced by Johann Gudmundsson and Darko Churlinov.

Vitinho will move to left-back in place of Maatsen.

Josh Cullen collects the ball outside the box and sends a shot way over for Burnley.

Chances are still coming for the Baggies.

Steve Bruce might want to look to his bench sooner rather than later if things stay like this.

Will new striker Brandon Thomas-Asante be someone he turns to for a goal? The 23-year-old joined from Salford on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Grady Diangana heads a high, high, cross straight into the ground and wide. A quarter-chance for the Baggies.

Burnley do play some neat stuff going forward.

After one-touch passing around the edge of the box Jay Rodriguez bends a low effort on target but it's easily gathered by David Button.

West Brom defender Dara O'Shea collides with Burnley keeper Arijanet Muric as they both jump for a ball inside the box and O'Shea is down.

Vincent Kompany will probably want Burnley to sharpen up in this second half after a few sloppy mistakes before the break, but they've got that all important goal to look after.

  12. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

    West Brom 0-1 Burnley

The second half is under way.

West Brom played some nice stuff before the break but unless they find a couple of goals at least, they're going to be left with one victory from their opening eight matches.

Will it put Steve Bruce under a bit of pressure, if he isn't already?

I would like to bring you a few pictures from that first half but there are some WIFI issues at The Hawthorns meaning one of the only photos I can find is Vincent Kompany looking relatively glum.

Not sure that's a true reflection on things, but here you go...

There is continued confusion over how West Brom managed to miss out on signing Fulham's Josh Onomah in particular last night.

Onomah was given permission to join the Baggies by manager Marco Silva and spent a good part of the evening at the club.

As far as Fulham were concerned, the deal was agreed with an hour to spare and they just waited for the paperwork so it could be signed off and sent to the relevant authorities.

However, when the papers were returned there was less than a minute to the deadline and therefore too late to complete.

West Brom don't dispute this. However, they are adamant the hour was filled with conversations between the two clubs and also the player and his agent and they got the papers across as quickly as they could.

It meant Onomah missed out on his move, left Fulham with a player manager Marco Silva doesn't want, led to huge frustration for Steve Bruce and fury amongst the West Brom fan base and fingers being pointed at owner Guochuan Lai.

  16. Jay Rod not so popular any morepublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

West Bromwich Albion old boy Jay Rodriguez got a very warm reception before the game from the Baggies fans, as befits a player who was very popular in his two years here, netting 33 goals.

Not sure the home fans feel quite the same away about him now after sticking away his penalty so well.

You couldn't complain about the penalty. It was a wonderful piece of ball control by Nathan Tella, Baggies keeper David Button stretched out a long right leg to bring him down - and Jay Rod did the rest.

In fact, the only thing to argue about was whether Button should have stayed on. As penalties go, this one looked stone wall, as did a red card!

  17. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

    West Brom 0-1 Burnley

West Brom boss Steve Bruce will be baffled as to how his side go in behind at the break.

Jay Rodriguez's penalty after Nathan Tella was sent tumbling by David Button is the difference.

But the Baggies have had numerous chances to level or even be in front.

Baggies forward Karlan Grant catches Connor Roberts and the Burnley defender is down. There's a bit of afters between Roberts and Jayson Molumby as Molumby tries to pull him to his feet, but it settles down quickly.

Roberts hobbles to the touchline after a bit of treatment.

Nathan Tella then bursts clear at the other end but his effort is well saved by David Button from a difficult angle on the left.

So many chances in this first half, but only the one goal!
