"With the substitutions, we were better in the last half hour, perhaps enough to get something from the game but not enough to win it.

"Mathew Cudjoe is always in my thoughts. I toyed with bringing him on at half-time and he was always going to play a significant part of the second half. He had a big impact and was unfortunate not to score. I think that will come for him."

Livingston manager David Martindale tells BBC Sportsound: "I thought the players were brilliant. The game plan was very good and they stuck to it rigidly. A bit more composure in the final third and we maybe nick one or two more.

"We wanted to play at our intensity because we knew United had a tough game on Thursday.

"I said to Cristian at half time: 'you're going to win us the game' and he did. He's struggled with injuries at times last year but he has got good qualities and he's a player I can rely on."

Cristiano Montano had never scored for Livingston before and he might never score a better goal.

"It feels special," he tells BBC Sportsound. "It was a great strike, but the main thing is the three points. Every single player put in a shift.

"I've played full-back a lot over my career and the gaffer has been working with me on the training pitch. It's a position that lets me impose myself on games."
