Gareth: Hate to see big players punished simply for being bigger and stronger than everybody else. That is certainly happening today with Mitrovic. Several instances of him being fouled multiple times while challenging for the ball or holding the ball and no fouls called.

  5. 'We’re underequipped at this level'published at 18:30 British Summer Time 27 August 2022

    Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth boss Scott Parker to BBC Sport: "We’re all shell-shocked. It's a really disappointing scoreline. I understand the challenges we face. There's no denying we’re underequipped at this level and in this arena.

"There's been the fear of that throughout the season in terms of where are as a group and squad. There's been that fear because the levels have gone up drastically. It’s a very young, inexperienced group. Some player are experiencing the Premier League for the first time. I’m speaking to you 10 minutes after the game. It's a pretty humbling experience. Pretty painful.

"I'm very alarmed. This is where we are in terms of players on the pitch and the squad depth we have. I was alarmed the goals were going in very easy and I half understood. We're trying our hardest here. I feel sorry for this group. We need some help [new signings]. Easy goals, there’s loads to work on but we need a little bit of help.

"We need time to do the work on the training field. The test of time will come whether players can adapt to that. My job is to take the psychological element out of this. There is a big psychological element. Hopefully in the next few days we can get some help in and rebuild. We need help. You can see in our squad, boys making their debuts in certain areas.

"We need to make a decision as a football club what we want to do this year – do we want to be competitive? We’re not competitive right now.

"Its very difficult. The touchline is a lonely place. I felt for every single one of the players.

"These stories get told down the road. The adversity one faces. This one will define us, me. Hopefully we bounce back and react in the right way and there'll be a story behind it if we dust ourselves down."

  6. 'Disappointing to concede from set-piece'published at 18:29 British Summer Time 27 August 2022

    FT: Brentford 1-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford said: "Disappointed personally, I thought we defended unbelievably, defending crosses, putting our bodies on the line and working as a unit from top to bottom.

"Everyone put a great shift in and to concede a set-piece to not win the game is disappointing considering all the hard work we'd done throughout the game.

"Sometimes you just need to dig deep and make saves and that's what I did. That's what I'm there to do, I felt comfortable all game because when the lads are defending like they are in front of you, you have to help then out when called upon.

"I don't think I was too busy because of the effort the lads put in in front of me."

On Brentford's equaliser: "I don't know why the lino hasn't put his flag up for the diagonal earlier on, I think it's offside.

"They scored from the resulting corner so it's obviously disappointing to concede a set-piece after all of our hard work.

On Anthony Gordon's goal: "It was a brilliant goal, he works really hard in training every day. But it's not just the goal, it's his work-rate off the ball that helps the team massively.

"Hopefully his goal will give him confidence heading into the next game against Leeds."

  7. 'The players need help'published at 18:27 British Summer Time 27 August 2022

    Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth boss Scott Parker: "It doesn’t surprise me. This is currently where it is at this moment in time. The players need help. Today proved too big a challenge. The levels were far too big.

"At teams we couldn’t bear it, the intensity. We’ve got a decision to make as a club. There will be days like this. Time will tell. It's a huge disappointment, a real humbling experience.

"I’m gutted for the players. It’s my job and it will the defining of us as a group how we bounce back from this.

"We have some days where hopefully we can get some help in and support and help the current team who came up from the Championship.

"There’s loads of work to be done. The experience today, you never want to be on the end of this. This is currently where are are. If this is the group we’re going with we’ll react and see where are."

  9. 'We wanted a 100% satisfying experience'published at 18:24 British Summer Time 27 August 2022

    Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: "I loved the start most from the whole game. They played 5-3-2 and Scott Parker had real success with that system.

"It's not always our favourite system to play against but we didn’t hesitate today. We won the ball back high. We had bodies in the box. We scored some wonderful goals from all areas and didn’t stop. It was 5-0 at half-time. How often does it happen that a team take their foot off the gas. We just wanted to have a 100% satisfying experience we can use going from here.

"The start was the perfect game. The boys kept going. They did really well."

On Roberto Firmino: "I'm really happy for him. He played well against United. It was a big step. Today was a different game. I’m really happy for him."

On what he said to Scott Parker at full-time: "I couldn’t respect more what he’s doing there. Today wasn’t the best day to face us. I’m sure when Scott saw what happened on Monday and heard all the noise he thought it’s not the best moment to go to Liverpool. The boys proved it. I wanted to tell him hopefully he can stay calm. There will be days they cause the opponents a lot more problems."
