The Prince of Wales sent Aston Villa a message of support while he mourns the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Steven Gerrard revealed.

Jacob Ramsey sealed a scrappy 1-0 win over Southampton on Friday after Villa Park paid tribute.

Prince William, a lifelong Villa fan, is in London ahead of his grandmother's state funeral on Monday.

"He messaged in the week, to the club, and that shows everything about what he thinks of this club," Gerrard said.

"It certainly took me aback. He is very much involved in Villa. For him to message in the situation he is in is really impressive."

There is doubt over whether Diego Costa will make his debut for Wolves today given he has not played since leaving Atletico Mineiro n January.

However, manager Bruno Lage is convinced that, over time, the 33-year-old will be a significant addition to his squad with his aggressive style.

"It is not just the fans (who respond to aggression) it is also the manager," he said.

"What I want are players who do everything they can to help their team to win the games. He is that kind of player. That is why he won what he did with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.

"It is so hard to be a player. Sometimes you have to show a face in the game that you are not showing away from it. If Diego Costa came in here, you would be laughing because he has that kind of personality. But if you play one on one against him, he would break your leg if he needed to win the game - that is a joke of course - but that is the type of personality he is."
