That could be the loudest cheer of the afternoon.

Stuart Attwell awards Leeds a free-kick deep inside their own half, and it's met by ironic cheers from the Elland Road faithful.

It feels like they may be a bit disappointed in the referee's performance.

Luke Ayling throwing his body at a John McGinn effort is what we love to see.

Do or die defending by the Leeds player.

Robin Kock is into the book for dragging Ollie Watkins to the ground. That was more of a rugby tackle than what we're used to seeing in football.

He's the fifth Leeds player to receive a booking.

Into the final 10 minutes and we're still without a goal.

Villa have had the best chances in the second half since Leeds went down to 10 men.

The hosts have produced just one shot on target.

Arsenalwhatever: Gerrard hasn't brought anything to the game as a coach. Such a fantastic player but such a boring coach. The positive is: he is not a pundit.

Patrick Bamford rides the challenge of the Villa defender and forces Emiliano Martínez into a good save from a tight angle.

The Villa keeper nearly parries the ball into the onrushing Brenden Aaronson's path, but Ezri Konsa sticks a leg in to deny the Leeds player.

Cynical and devious play by Aston Villa. Not really football. They're just working the referee.

Villa switch it from right to left.

Emi Buendia pings the ball across the field to Ashley Young, who pulls it back for Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian takes a touch and his effort is wide of the mark and the chance disappears.

Coutinho has been Villa's best player going forward. He's trying to make things happen.

    That was close.

Emi Buendia receives the ball on the turn and bends an effort at goal, which just misses the top corner.

Illan Meslier would have been worried for a second there.

A great reception for Patrick Bamford, who scored 17 Premier League goals two seasons ago, but had a campaign ruined by injury last season and has only started two games in 2022-23.

Speaking in the matchday programme, Bamford, capped once by England, said he had missed the fans singing his name and added: “Last year when I was injured and going through it all, I didn’t like watching the games from the stand because it made me anxious.

“I felt down afterwards because I wasn’t part of it out there on the pitch. These fans are special, we all know that, and it’s great to be able to play in front of them.

“It is a job but also the main reason you play football is because you love it, so when you’re stopped from doing that it’s quite hard.”

Asked how much he enjoys working with boss Jesse Marsch, Bamford replied: “A lot, he’s fantastic and for me and my game he’s perfect.

“The way we’re going to play suits me to a tee. His style of play is very attacking and his view is to get the ball forward quickly through the lines, which means there should be a lot of chances on goal for the strikers."

Can Bamford be the hero today for 10-man Leeds?

Anon: Villa player kicks the ball away in anger in the 3rd minute. That’s an automatic yellow but the ref decides to let it slide. Sinisterra blocks a free kick which is an automatic yellow and the ref shrugs and says nothing he can do and sends him off.

Cliff: In the 3rd minute of the game Stuart Attwell decides to give Leon Bailey a talking to rather than the mandatory yellow card after Bailey blasts the ball away when a Leeds freekick is awarded. Sinisterra sent off for next to nothing, Bailey should also be off!

Leeds will need Jesse Marsch now, when you've gone down to 10 men you need your manager and he would be kicking every ball so this is where they miss him.

You need everyone to galvanise and you need these fans to play a big part as well.

FT: Man City 6-3 Man Utd

    Manchester City

Time now for a bit more reaction for the Manchester derby...

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I've never scored three hat-tricks in three home games before. It's amazing.

"Confidence is good, it's always been good. After the Community Shield against Liverpool, it was still good. It was good that this match happened and I just have to be ready. I felt a couple of days before the game that something special was going to happen and some special things happened so it's nice.

"It's these games I want to play in. These are the best games, there is a bit extra. So it's nice. There could have been more and in the second half we should have been tighter and worked a bit harder because it was a bit sloppy at times.

"We lost the second half and this is not good so we still have to work."

The pressure is on Aston Villa because when a team goes down to 10 men, you're meant to break them down. It is difficult sometimes but Leeds have to stay in the game and keep defending like they have done.
