GOAL - Fulham 1-0 Aston Villapublished at 20:07 British Summer Time 20 October 2022

    Harrison Reed (36 mins)

    What a strike!

Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed piles the pressure on a glum-looking Steven Gerrard with a cracker of an opening goal.

Villa think they have cleared the danger when Emi Martinez punches clear a corner, but it is picked up by Reed.

With time to take a touch, he gets the ball out of his feet and then lashes into the left-hand corner.

Anyone who has watched Leeds in recent weeks will know why exactly they have struggled to pick up wins.

Whites boss Jesse Marsch is also acutely aware.

When asked what is missing from his team, Marsch simply said: "Goals. We need more goals. We need more leads.

"When we are on top in matches, we need to capitalise.

"Everyone around here knows that’s where we are right now. If we can start to add that to the mix then we can have a really good team."

A lightening quick break by Fulham almost bears fruit. William is leading the charge, cutting inside from the left but unable to beat Emi Martinez.

Little over 10 minutes of the first half left.

Villa want a free-kick on the edge of the Fulham box when Ollie Watkins falls to the ground. Nothing given by Michael Oliver.

And now Fulham look to capitalise on the counter...

Turning into more of a contest now.

Villa are suddenly on top as Leon Bailey tries to wriggle clear on goal before Ollie Watkins warms the palms of Fulham keeper Bernd Leno with a long-ranger.

Frank: Who would be a good but realistic replacement for Rodgers? I can't think of anyone. Things are so tight in the bottom half of the table we only need to win a couple of games on the bounce to ease tension and build confidence. Blue Army!!

  9. Rodgers remaining defiant despite criticismpublished at 20:00 British Summer Time 20 October 2022

    Leicester v Leeds (20:15 BST)

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers continued to shrug off speculation about his position ahead of tonight's game.

A section of the Foxes' fanbase called for Rodgers to be sacked following last weekend's goalless draw with Crystal Palace, which left them stuck in the relegation zone.

"It's all the narrative that is out there," said the Foxes boss.

"My only focus is on the game. I know the storyline and I know what the narrative wants to be.

"My dedication is only with helping the team improve. I respect wholly the views of fans and opinions that will come whenever you don't win games. I totally understand that.

"My focus is purely on improving the team to finish the season in the highest possible position they can."

Ross: I’m so bored of pointing out all the issues with Villa’s tactics, team selection, game management, that it’s just so much easier to say that we’re not very good at football, are we?

Chris: Villa definitely don't look like a team playing for their managers future! Very poor so far!

Respite for Villa as they win an attacking free-kick on the left.

Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa trot forwards, but it is Danny Ings who meets the delivery from Douglas Luiz.

    Ah, he's offside anyway.

Something to encourage the Villa fans, who find their voice and make themselves heard.

Martinez has stood up when he has been needed. It speaks volumes that Tyrone Mings is Villa's best player so far especially given the attacking players they have on the field.

Aston Villa are more at sea than a naval crew.

Fulham create another opportunity from a corner as Andreas Pereira's delivery is met by the head of João Palhinha. But it goes straight at Emi Martinez.

Feel the hosts need to make this dominance count.

Brilliant free kick from Pereira, he looks like he has got his distances right tonight and he struck that well.

Andreas Pereira has more magic in his boots than David Blaine had in that box.

The twinkle-toed Brazilian wins a free-kick off Jacob Ramsey in a promising position, then curls a delicious set-piece towards the inside of the left-hand post.

Luckily for Villa, Emi Martinez is alert and gets across to save.

Mitrovic with a great header, he gets good purchase on the ball, he couldn't do anymore after beating the goalkeeper. Luckily for Villa, Tyrone Mings was aware of the situation.

Villa have already had one warning after a clever Fulham set-piece. How will the home side approach this one?

This time it is clipped into the mixer, where Aleksandar Mitrovic outmuscles the away defence to head goalwards.

He thinks/hopes he has scored, so do the home fans.

Not so, says Michael Oliver. He raises his watch to the sky to indicate the tech says it has not crossed the line.

That would have been absolutely perfect, Pereira finds himself in plenty of space and gets good contact but Villa get lucky.

    Fulham 0-0 Aston Villa

Normal service resumed... Fulham on the front foot.

Andreas Pereira - who many Fantasy Football managers are banking on - goes close twice in quick succession.

A speculative shot is deflected onto the roof of the Villa net before a well-worked corner routine picks him out on the edge of the area.

He unleashes a crisp strike which whizzes past the post with the help of another Villa diversion.
