No team have lost fewer games than Newcastle (one) in the Premier League this season.

This is the joint-fewest defeats the Magpies have had after 12 games of a Premier League campaign, along with 1994-95, 1995-96 and 2011-12.

They finished in the top six those three times.

  7. 'I can't praise the players enough'published at 19:17 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Spurs 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We're just really pleased with the way things are going for us at the moment. It was a really good performance today, probably the best performance since I've been here. I thought we were really brave both in and out of possession and I can't praise the players enough for what they are giving me currently.

On whether Newcastle could already have more points this season: "I think we could have ended up with more points, the Palace game is on that really sticks in my mind, that we missed a few chances, the VAR decision. we were frustrated and then I think the hangover of that game probably took us into Bournemouth so we could have had more points, deserved more from certain games but it is what it is and we've got the points we've got. I couldn't look at the squad anymore favourably at the minute in terms of what they're giving me, the effort and commitment that they're giving on a consistent basis and the group is really together and pulling in the same direction and I think that's showing in the performances.

On Miguel Almiron: "Miggy [Miguel Almiron] deserves the credit for everything he's doing this season. He epitomises what we want to see from a player out of possession but he's adding goals and I think that's changing people's perceptions of his performances. The goal today was another very good one. He's scored spectacular goals as well this year. He is just full of confidence and enjoying his football. He loves being part of this team.

On looking ahead to January and transfer targets: "We're not currently looking at January. When the Premier League breaks for the World Cup that will be the time when I will have a look. I'm very pleased with the group, we still have a number of injuries and players not available today who I think would make a huge difference especially to our in game options. The priority is to get those players back fit, once we do we have a very good squad. Then we'll look to see which areas we can strengthen.

On Callum Wilson's goal: "It was [the correct decision] because usually when a goalkeeper comes out of his box and collides with a player, he is given a free kick instantly. I thought it was the right decision because it was more of a coming together between two players. I have to compliment Callum on the finish because he sees the goal, sees the defender is there and on his wrong foot it was a great strike from him."

  8. 'I was never in doubt'published at 19:14 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson talking to BBC Sport: "As a team we had an overall performance, everyone dug in, we went toe to toe with a great side. Last season we got a hiding and we owed them one today.

"The ball has been played in behind for my goal and the goalie, we did our homework, we knew would rush off his line. He has chested it and dived into me. I don't feel I need to move. I have turned and finished and it has helped us get three points.

"I was never in doubt, they were trying everything to not give me the ball. VAR should not be getting involved in trying to overrule the referee on the day.

"We have something good going on, we have a great togetherness and a manager who lets us express ourselves."

  9. Wilson goal 'was a strange decision' - Contepublished at 19:08 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Spurs 1-2 Newcastle

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte to BBC: "It was a pity. I thought at least a draw was the fair result. We started well and had chances to score.

"The Newcastle goalkeeper made some good saves and in our best moment they scored this strange goal. I don't want to comment about that decision.

"Then a few moments later we conceded the second goal. We lost a bit of confidence and maybe that was the difficult point for us.

"My players then showed great determination and commitment. I don't have anything to complain about.

"We have two days to recover well because on Wednesday we have a vital game in the Champions League and continue to have injuries. We are not a top team where you can lose important players. We are trying to build something important but to do this we need time to improve the quality of the squad to play in two important competitions like the Premier League and Champions League."

  11. 'We were very aggressive and brave'published at 19:02 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Spurs 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe to BBC: "I'm very pleased, not just with the result but the performance. I thought we deserved the win. We were very aggressive and brave, and the players deserve all the credit for how they played today."

On the first goal: "I wasn't sure what happened. It was a coming together of two players and I wasn't sure if it was a foul either way. Usually the defending team expects it to go in their favour but I don't see why that should be the case."

On Newcastle's performance: "We were just trying to get the basics right and keep their attacking players quiet. Miggy [Almiron] got the second goal but at 2-1 we didn't sit deep. Yes, they had their moments, but we withstood that and had our moments going the other way.

"Once we found our rhythm I thought our performance was very good today. We're in a very good place, we've got a lot of momentum, but we know how difficult it is in the Premier League to continue to win."

  12. 'We have only just started our process'published at 18:58 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Spurs 1-2 Newcastle

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Antonio Conte to Sky Sports: "Before the situtation [first goal] we created many chances to score. Maybe if we had better finishing we could score. Then it happened this situation, I don't want to comment on the referee decision. I don't want to comment.

"Not so good. We conceded a goal from a long ball. In our best moment Newcastle scored their first goal. Their second goal came from a counter-attack. Then it was really difficult to come back.

"We tried. We scored one goal. We didn't do good enough.

"We are doing our best in every moment. Today the commitment was really high. We have to face a difficult situation for us. When you don't have three or four players in the squad you're in trouble.

"We have to manage very well this situation and overcome it together.

"When you play every three days you need to have a deep, strong squad. We have only just started our process. We are playing in the Champions League. We're trying to improve our situation step by step. You need time and patience. I want to be honest. With my experience, we are doing well but we need the time and patience.

"If we played one game every six or seven days, we could fight for something important. To play every three days we have to continue to build our path and have patience. If someone thinks we can invent the win and do a miracle, we need to continue to work.

"If someone doesn't want to listen it's not my problem. Fingers crossed we don't have many injuries. Many injuries can affect our season.

"When you start this type of process, I can tell the line to follow. We have to finish this period of games and then in January we'll see where we are, which improvement we need. Together with the club. The club knows very well. I was very clear in the summer. If we want to play in the Premier League and Champions League you need to improve the squad. When you play, play, play, injuries happen. When three to five players are out it becomes a problem for a team like Tottenham."

  13. It's my dream to play at the World Cup - Wilsonpublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Spurs 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson on team-mate - and new dad - Bruno Guimaraes: "He's an unbelievable character and an unbelievable player. We're so happy for him. He's an emotional guy and it's been an emotional few days, and we topped it off today."

On Newcastle's form: "It's down to how the manager set us up and the direction this season. We've kept our feet on the ground now it's falling into place and we're getting results."

On his goal: "I had every right to go for the ball. The keeper was challenging, I was challenging. I think sometimes keepers get too much love [from referees]. But he chested it and dived into me really, and I've carried on and put it in.

"VAR sometimes gets in the way of things, it can be annoying. The goal gets checked, there's uncertainty then you're celebrating again. It takes a bit of that element away but it's about the team. We're glad to get the three points.

"We're on a good run and long may it continue. At the end of the season we'll evaluate where we are in the league."

On World Cup hopes: "I'm just focused on my performances - game in, game out; little by little; adding goals and all-round performances. Hopefully that will catch the eye of the England manager. I did rehab from injury in Qatar a few years ago. They were building the stadiums [for the World Cup] and I did say I'd come back. It's my dream to play at the World Cup."

Lu E: Levy has gone all out for big name managers recently to try and get a trophy. However he is paying record manager fees for the most boring defensive managers available. They both have only ever won by being the biggest spenders in their leagues. New direction needed.

Conte needs to pray that Kulusevski is fit because they are missing a creative spark. Kane and Son need service, you've got Kane dropping so deep because he's the only one who can find that incisive pass and it's disappointing. But Kulusevski is not far from returning, they need him back and they need Richarlison. They needs their attacking players back very soon.

  16. 'We deserved the win'published at 18:46 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Spurs 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe to Sky Sports: "It was a big win. We were determined to come here and be positive. Great display from us. We deserved the win.

"My players deserve all the credit for how we attack the game. We executed the game plan really well. It wasn't without problems - they have world-class players.

"They had a few long-range shots and dangerous counter-attacks early on. Once we solved that we were OK."

On the opening goal: "I haven't seen it again. It looked like the two players came together. Why should that foul go in the way of the defending team?"

"Miggy [Almiron] has always been a fantastic player. He's just adding goals to his game. When he's in front of goal you think he's going to score. His performance today was excellent."

On their spending: "The problem is if you associate with money it takes away credit from the players. A lot of them were here anyway. Credit the players for the performance, don't look at how the team were put together.

"There is a long way to go. Very tight divison. We're enjoying the moment but we won't get ahead of ourselves. We'll try to win. I'm sure people will talk us up but I don't want to put any external pressure on my players."

On his son Matteo's birth, the Brazilian added: "It was one of the best days of my life. I'm very happy and proud. It's been like a dream. I don't have words because it's amazing what has happened in my life.

"I say thanks to my family. It's been difficult but it's all worth it."
